It seems from Twitter that both candidates have said they'd reject a time limit to or unilateral exit from the backstop.

The only way it makes sense is if he's trying to win from a late attack from the GC group where he's let go - and trying to stay in the top ten.
That seems like a lot of finessing.

I think if I were in the break today I'd slow down - force the gap down to 20 - 30 secs and tempt other riders across.

Letting a gap open was sloppy. Had Thomas been another GC rider from another team the discussion would have been the attention to detail from INEOS. Meh.

I enjoyed how 'on brand' Tony Martin, Wellens, Alaphillipe were.
