Re: Bike Park Wales as a first trail centre

Hmm, I think BPW is fun but I wouldnt spend 2 days as a noob. It can be hard work on the arms and you're likely to find 1 day is enough. With the short opening at the moment its perfectly reasonable to do the whole day in a day if you know what I mean. Go have fun, but only do 1 day. Good choice of ...

Re: New Shock

Id not bother with lockout etc. but the debonair upgrade and a service would be pretty awesome... probably (I've not used a debonair on a 2013 Anthem of course!)

Re: Compatibility SRAM XX1/X01/GX vs. Shimano XT8000/XTR9000

As it happens I fitted a GX shifter to an XTR 11 set up only yesterday after a friend toasted his shifter at the UKGE. Worked fine! In fact, I might say it actually worked better than XTR.

XT M8000 Brakes
DT E1700 wheels
Reverb Stealth
Turbine Bars
Haven Stem
Proper Tyres
... Lots of other 'Proper' finishing kit.

Re: Coil Shock for 2016 Stumpy

Yes thats the deal. Basically glorified rubber bands. You let the air from the shock, unscrew the can, add said rubber bands inside and do it all back up again. That reduces the air volume which increases the progressive rate of the shock, meaning it will reach full travel (given the same input impa...

Re: Small block 8

First version is standard tyre for tubes.
Second is for UST set ups (which I bet you dont have)
Third is for running tubeless (or tubed if you want - it will probably be more puncture proof).

FIrst thing to do is to fill the thing with spacers, then see how she rides.

Re: Normal behavior for a Monarch RL?

Only getting 35% of the travel sounds like a blocked negative transfer port to me. You should be able to get 75% of travel no matter how progressive the shock is.

150 PSI+ is totally normal for 25% sag

monarchs don't much like running at 25% - 30% gives much better results I have found.

Re: Coil Shock for 2016 Stumpy

You have read wrong I am afraid. Coils offer exactly no progression whatsoever. None. Zip. Entirely linear. Not to say it wont be cool, but you wont get the effect you're thinking you will. It might still be good though. If you have enough progression in the shock curve, then a coil will let you run...

Re: Which front fork have i bought?

The lockout wont work unless the cable is 100% taught. They are very sensitive to that. I would undo the grub screw, make sure the housing for the cable is properly seated both ends, pull the cable tight, then turn the lockout cap a little, and tighten the cable in that position to give it some pre-...

Re: 1x11 & 27.5 Wheels for a new build

26 & 29 is erroneous, 27.5 is actually 27.5 when using an average MTB tyre. Yes its a marketing trick to call it something going against the established trend, but its not incorrect. Calling it 650B is as 'erroneous' as the 650B standard was established for a nominal 26" wheelsize. So if yo...

Hardtail or FS? On a hardtail you'll just get away with it without mods. On an FS no chance.

I presume you mean 650B (erroneously called 27.5") wheels?

Why erroneous?

Re: XT 11 Speed

Actually you loose a fair amount of range. Assuming a 38/24 double on 11-36 cassette I think off the top of my head you only get 72% of the range on an 11-42, but that jumps to 81% on a 10-42. Quite a bump.

Weights (for the most popular set up anyway): Rear Mech 272g 11-42 Cassette 433g! Shifter (Ispec-II) 139g Brakes 297/289g uncut. Which means although its a fair bit cheaper, as a complete set up its a fair bit heavier than GX 10-42. I suspect there may be a fair few SRAM / Shimano hybrids, taking ad...

Yours will probably be best part of 1kg lighter than the mag ones. The WMB TBOTY / DH vs Trail Vs XC bike tests that most people quote weights from was a bike built using pretty much the heaviest of everything we offer :) A proper tank!

Also, if your forks dont take tokens, you can buy the upgrade kit for reasonable money... if you can find one :)
