Record numbers in a Central League race

Central CX League has always been popular but numbers are increasing year on year. Last Sunday the women’s race attracted over 160 starters, including Helen Wyman who made an appearance to show support. Brilliantly organised by host club Velobants CC, Central CX League and BC Central Division. Good ...

ahh thanks, all becoming clear now :)

There’s a spring clip around the outside of the drive side UT cup. You’ll need to remove this before pulling out the RH cranks arm.

Re: Planing my first atempt at a homebuilt lugged frame - material questions

Great project! I did the same some years back and made a steel frameset out of Reynolds 653 and cast lugs. I did plenty of homework first and a full size drawing (pre my CAD days). Went in my shed and a week later came out with a frame. Worked well, raced it, commuted on it, did everything on it inc...

Re: Hunt Aero Race Vs Aero Race Wide Vs 4 Season

I believe the 4 Season wheels use brass nipples, the others use aluminium nipples. Adds a bit of weight but arguably makes them easier to work on long term in case of damage. Others vary by rim profile. Compare specs on the Hunt website, all the details are there. Daughter and I have bought four pai...

Re: Cannondale CAAD12 Disc

Here’s mine. Bought the frame on here and sourced the parts from my shed and eBay. Bit disappointed with weight of 8.3kg but still ver6 pleased with it. I’d like the bars a tad higher but previous owner cut steerer a bit low for me. https://www.flickr.com/photos/36600211@N03/48213004876/in/dateposte...

Re: Campervan

If it helps, I paid £21k for my 2013, 70k miles van. Fairly basic by some standards but we’ve been living in it full time quite happily for two months. Like most things in life, vans are a compromise. More road friendly, buy small. Want space, buy big. And so on. You need to decide what you want it ...

Re: Campervan

One bit of cost I forgot. Prior to moving out we chucked lots of our possessions away, the rest went into storage, including my Audi TT, so that’s costing ~£300pm. Another car is parked on a farm where we’ll keep the van when finally come back. When travelling you’ll be amazed at how little you need...

Re: Campervan

Couple of comments about the van and costs. We reckon it’s costing less than £2k per month for full time living. Sites average out a 25€ a night all in. Fuel £300 a month (guess). Our van is H2L3 based Citroen Relay (same as Boxer/Ducato). Cooker, sink, fridge, braai, and most importantly for us, ki...

Yep, I’ve got one. My wife and I currently ambling around Europe just chilling out. Been on the road two months now and will be back in England (probably briefly) in mid August. Parked at St Jean Pied-de-Port in the Pyrenees right now. Children grown up, both of us at retiring age, so I sold my smal...

Re: 6803 bearings - will any make/brand fit?

Second vote for Simply Bearings, very good service.

Not all bearings are equal, don’t buy the cheapest. Buy SKF it NSK if you can, mid price range can be fine depending on application, but do avoid the ‘budget’ range. As with everything, you get what you pay for.

Re: Claris good enough for club runs?

Went on club chain gang one night and a seriously strong rider turned up (3:37 for a 100 mile TT). He sat on the front and dished it out, didn’t come off the front once, the rest of us all hanging on for grim death. His bike, a converted On-One MTB, on which he was about to ride the world, complete ...

Re: How much difference does road surface make?

To get an understanding of road surface, try riding on Belgian cobbles, shocking, in more ways than one. I rode up Koppenberg and it was very, very tough. Then I rode down Koppenberg and it was much, much worse!

Re: New wheel advice

Seconded for Hunt wheels. I’ve just ordered a second pair of 4 Season disc wheels. Very impressed with Hunt. Great service, wheels are excellent and a great price - £319.00 delivered.
