Glen Tarken: St Fillans: Loch Earn

Has anyone cycled the route of the St Fillans Mountain Bike Challenge? It climbs 1500ft from the lochside into remote moorland and back down again. The views over Loch Earn are said to be superb. The distance is only eight miles but it looks like two hours of cycling on the way up and two minutes on the way down. Can anyone advise about the depth of water when crossing streams (two or three fords on map) and whether or not there are opening gates in the deer fences?
