XTR rear mech ok to use with XT shifters???

Dudes....
anyone know if it's ok to wack on a new xtr rear mech with my current xt shifters...?
don't want to fork out the extra at this current time, although i will in the future if i can....
same question applies to the front..?
will xt cables be ok too? or xtr's...?

ok my current rear mech is a M760 rapid rise
shifters are XT M750 rapid rise
I was looking at a XTR M970 rapid rise rear mech to replace
yes, i want it to work the same. I hope this is enough info....
my chainset is xtr, so will be upgrading the rear cassette and front mech at some point soon, probably along with the shifters when i have some more moneybikes:
