Chain widths

This is something I've been researching using the Internet but am still quite confused. There are 1/8", 3/32" and 5/64" chains (inner width indicating the suitable sprocket width) and there are 10, 9, 8, 7 etc speed chains. Does this directly relate i.e. 10 speed = 5/64", 9 and 8 speed = 3/32", 7 and less speed = 1/8" ???

nope. first of 9 spd is not the same width as 8spd. 8/7/6 are the same.

OK I made a mistake - it should've been 10 speed = 5/64", 9 = 3/32", 8 and less speed = 1/8"

8/7/6 are 3/32"
9 speed is thinner.
BMX/Singlespeed is 1/8"
Commonly, the speed of chain will be mentioned alongside.
