Double Chainrings

I'm getting a Blur 4X (woop!), but, my dad is sceptical about double chainrings, as opposed to the full triple set. The set I would be getting on my Blur are 24-36's, so, I kinda need confirmation that it would be fine for all round riding...would it?

i ride with only the middle gear on the front, in between 2 bashguards, and although you lose some range of the gears i still do 50+ miles a week on it. That's with one, with two you just lose some of the top speed

i only have a double chainring and its perfect for all round riding, i don't even miss the third ring

Same here I have the e13 chain bashguard replacing my outer ring, and have not really missed it. Normally use my bike on the trails in Wales, and not missed the outer ring, plus my chain now stays on!

i use 22/36 but i have gripshift,bikes never seem to come with 22/36,only 24/36 so perhaps the front indexing is dodgy.i do have to trim my mech sometimes.with dura ace rapidfire you can trim mech.i wish you could with xt/xtr

i only miss the 3rd ring on road downhills which i can normally get up to a good speed in my 2nd ring! they'll be fine,

24/36 would be fine, I use 38t only but it is more efficient to spin in a lower gear.
