Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

Mumps coming back due to vaccine denial could be properly Darwinian though as it can affect fertility.

CDC supposedly actually going down the rabbit hole of 'investigating' the link between MMR and autism. The mind just boggles at how they will recruit real scientists to conduct the 'research' which, I assume, has a predetermined desired outcome.
If they go back too far in the scientific quest, they'll end up questioning whether zero needs to exist as a concept.

Thing is, they will possibly find some evidence between the data that guy falsified. And if they do, it will have effects outside of the US.

I don't think it is fair at all, I was explaining the politics. Ukraine stopped all men of fighting age leaving the country, but even Rick thought that was fine when I mentioned it. I am intrigued what the UK would do.
Similarly in Rep. of Korea (South), due to declining birth rates the number of conscriptions has been dropping each year. The response has been to increase the eligibility for men by including the mentally unwell, orhpans and very overweight. It is now more than 99%. What they really need to do is conscript women, but it would be political suicide.

Sorry, I meant fair points you make about the politics. Not about the differential treatment/expectations. It plays along with the Trumpian ousting of highly qualified female military people, just because they are women.

And FWIW, there's been some misreporting, though not about the translation of 'men'.

Amongst other gadgets around have, I run a Windows notebook with the cycling app software loaded. Most of my other stuff (phone, tablets, desktop, TV streamer etc) are all Apple devices.
I've enabled "Set Time Automatically" on everything - no manual interference from me.
The Windows notebook is roughly a minute behind the Apple gadgets, without fail. Phone will say 1:07pm, Notebook says 1:06.
I'm mystified why there's any disagreement. It's not a few femtoseconds out, but a whole minute which seems crazily inaccurate these days. Far as I can tell, the Apple device(s) agree with most of the reference sites I can find.

Weird. FWIW my Windows laptop, iPhone and Garmin watch are all perfectly in sync.

Mine too; just sat there and watched Windows PC and iPhone tick over to 13:15 in perfect unison

I have seen an advert on a rowing classifieds site for a "casual rowing coach".
What should you wear to the interview?

"How magnesium molecules can bring comfort to your bike – and more fresh tech from Bike Connection's winter event"
Headline from the main site.
On some days this would be annoying. Today I'm intrigued by this new branch of chemistry previously unknown to earthlings.

Think it was a private school somewhere.
I'll let others step in to point out the difference between cider and Strongbow. They both taste like mouth wash to me.

Oi, at least choose a decent Devon cider to go with the tracksuit. (I used to live next door to this one.)

If you are not going down the tracksuit road then it is brown shoes obs.
Probably paired with chinos and a sweater. I'm picturing stereotypical Yale. I also know nothing. 😂
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

No socks, obvs. And make sure the trousers are just a tad short in the leg.

I reckon I could coach casual rowing. It sounds much more enjoyable than the normal version that looks exhausting.

How you fail to notice a massive ship when driving another massive ship equipped with loads of kit to help you spot massive ships.

I once travelled on a cargo ship. When it approached the channel, the scientific approach to not hitting another ship was a bloke with binoculars.

There was someone on the radio yesterday explaining that all ships still need a physical lookout. Pretty sure they also have several other systems including radar though!

Anyone suggesting that Poo-Tin might be involved in ramming a tanker full of US jet fuel??
0 -
I imagine Musk or Trump will blame one or other of Ukraine or Hamas.

Nothing that this was a few years ago. They had a radar and some other satellite system that located other ships. The main problem was that radar wouldn't pick up small boats in bad weather and also those boats wouldn't use the satellite system. Therefore bloke with binoculars was looking for smaller ships as well as double checking everything else. Every method should pick up an oil tanker though!

Maybe they were relying on tweeting. Twitter's been down for the 4th time in two days, the latest for four hours.

That's the Ukrainians apparently.

I read someone saying that it's twitter's fault it got attacked and it should give itself to Ukraine.

Ukrainian sympathiser.

We'll probably find out that the anchored tanker caused the collision by being there and stopping the Russian captained ship going wherever it wanted. Also, the tanker has been disrespectful as it hasn't thanked America for the fire being put out and the crew rescued.
