Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

Just sounds like a load of out of touch old farts getting upset because they are no longer the target market. China is their largest and fastest growing market so what the aforementioned old farts think of the advert is pretty irrelevant.

Jaguar always sat beneath the likes of Aston Martin for luxury and sportiness. Even the E type was cheap. Just very stylish. So repositioning to compete further up the market is daft, and will fail.

They're failing already. Nothing to lose in trying something different.

Maybe you're right, they aren't cars for old people because even they aren't buying them. It's simple - not enough people want one to make any money.

Especially after that rebrand.

Who watches adverts? 🤔

Meh, not if it's guaranteed to fail.
Jaguar has been languishing in a style no-man's land for a decade. The only way you know it is a Jaguar is because of the badge. There's no other signature styling, nothing about the interior layout, absolutely nothing other than being a fairly nice car (with crap sat nav).
JLR as a whole has been caught with it's pants down with respect to EVs and hybrids, actually. But are getting away with it with Land Rover because country folk who live in cities know that a diesel is the right way to go.

Looks like a lot of people have been watching Jaguars new ad judging by the number of views its had on Youtube. Some of the comments are quite amusing, including a few who thought it was a wokey reboot of the Teletubbies 😊

Well quite. Working as intended I'd suggest. I'd say JLR owe all the old farts a thank you for all those re-posts. Keep on boosting!

Sadly for them, they seem to have alienated their natural customer base and are instead appealing to a load of wokies who would probably struggle to afford a service on a Jag, never mind the car itself 🙂

Their natural customer base are probably more successful and busy than those who sit on their arses all day getting red in the face watching gebeebies tbh...

I guess it's normal to feel angry at being dumped, but they are no longer the customer base. It's now upper middle class Chinese, who presumably aren't triggered by bright colours as I've not seen them ranting on social media.

Wrong way around, it is Jaguar who will be getting dumped by their customers. But it sounds like you'd do well at Jaguar with an attitude like that.
As for Chinese customers, maybe they haven't seen the ad as it may not have got past the great firewall of China?

The advert doesn't strike me as particularly woke, just a bit weird and shit - but that is not unusual for an advert (not that I see a lot of TV adverts these days because I almost never watch live tv)

Funny that someone who's in business doesn't get that Jag can't dump its customers; if they want to buy one then they will.
😉

They're not dumping their customers. Most of their customer base has moved. They are following it. Look at the sales figures if you don't believe me. Falling in UK Europe and US. China is now way ahead of any of them and increasing .
If the only thing people can remember is a car made before most of us were born and the one driven by a fictional grumpy old detective, who's dead. Maybe that's why they are looking elsewhere.

Best ever really weird and obscure car related advert for Dunlop tyres dating back 30 years and I still recall it vividly to this day!
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

I blame Bikeradar. I wouldn't have seen it, and added to the count, otherwise.

All except, aren't JLR transitioning to purely EV?

But their "natural customer base" had already stopped buying the cars. They have already announced they are stopping making almost all of their current range this year.
When they come out with their £200,000 weirdmobile electric car, it won't be aimed at any car lovers. Good luck to them. They'll need it.

Their natural customer base doesn't have much choice as Jaguar isn't even selling any cars at the moment.
Agree that they will need luck.

I was intrigued to see a German Shepherd Dog dressed in a snug-fitting all-over wool coat this evening. I would have thought the owner might have noticed that said pooch has a rather splendid fur coat already.

Not yet, for LR. And in the meantime those sales are holding up comparatively well. Still more than 50%. Good job, because they are lagging behind on phev and ev, technology.
I don't know why they didn't build on the ipace and transition smoothly to be honest. That was a good car and quite ahead of the curve.

"Gaydon, UK, Wednesday, 19 April 2023: JLR today announced exciting plans to accelerate its transition to become the world’s leading modern luxury car manufacturer revealing its Halewood plant, in the UK, will become an all‑electric production facility and its next generation medium‑size SUV architecture, electrified modular architecture (EMA), will now be pure‑electric.
In an update to global media at JLR’s centre in Gaydon, Chief Executive Officer Adrian Mardell reaffirmed the business’s commitment to its Reimagine strategy, which will reposition the company as an electric‑first, modern luxury carmaker by 2030, as JLR makes strides towards its financial goals of achieving a net cash positive position by FY25 and double‑digit EBIT by 2026."

Yeah, great. Meanwhile, Merc and BMW are actually selling quite a few.
There's no arguing that JLR sat on its hands with an old Jaguar range that was too old to be worth updating to create transitional models.
Genuinely think that they will struggle to make Jaguar cool enough for anyone to buy again.

Get thee to the dedicated car thread, people. Not intrigued any more. Furry dogs with knitted coats are far more intriguing.

You've lost me Brian. Is that a kink?

I'd assume it's easier to leave a dirty wet coat at the door than dirty wet fur
