Labour: benefits should be means tested.
Conservatives: no, you heartless bastards, they should be universal.

It is more Labour saying they should be means tested for old people and the Tories saying no they should be means tested for skiving young people and possibly witheld entirely from everyone, just in case an immigrant gets wind that they exist.

Still does my head in that the solution to 'some homes are difficult to heat economically because they are poorly insulated' is to hand £2bn a year to the energy providers.

Am confused by this.
Spain has a wealth tax of up to 3.5%. What does he think Labour are planning?

A lot of countries have generous tax allowances to attract foreigners. I think Spain is one of them.

It's got a proper socialist government, so I hope he likes paying taxes so poorer people can benefit, as well as his plastic surgeon.

I think they will fit in perfectly with the ex pat community there.

Sounds like he hasn't done his homework, but regardless of that people like that him are not taxpayers that we want to lose from the UK tax net. Unfortunately Labour seem to think that hiking taxes on the wealthy will just result in them staying put in the UK and paying more tax when a lot of them have the option/means to go elsewhere. A tad naive.

A quick google reveals they do have a special expat offering. The Beckham Law which has been recently updated to attract start-ups. Low tax for 5 years and no wealth tax.

And once he is out, he will pay no UK tax. Great bit of revenue raising by Labour.

He particularly seems worried about inheritance tax - are there special allowances on that for recent immigrants to Spain?

either he has psychic powers revealing the budget and timing
or he was going to bail for the eu anyway due to tory high taxes, brexit damage, better weather etc.
the latter seems more likely

I get the feeling he likes seeing himself in the paper, and he's come up with a story that's guaranteed to get him in conservative supporting rags.

If I looked like a melted waxwork of Rod Stewart, I wouldn't be too keen to see myself in the paper

A quick google says, no, it's worse.

Can't imagine he's going to close Pimlico Plumbers so we still get to keep the important bits.

He sold it. That's the money he's trying to avoid paying tax on.

Or he closes it and someone else does the plumbing.

He vehemently denies that he has ever had plastic surgery (I am not making this up!). Seen him asked in interviews on a few occasions and is adamant he never has.
0 -
In that case he should go to Turkey and get himself fixed.

One millionaire leaving the country isn't going to make much of a dent in the income. Comparison with other countries and US states who have raised wealth taxes show that the vast majority of those affected stay put.

might be botox, or perhaps he had one of the plumbers do it

Yeah but the winter fuel allowance…….
I don’t blame Charlie for leaving for a warmer climate.

It's just one example. It all adds up.
Do you seriously think they are all going to stay here and cough up?

😴😴😴 Also not true.
"The figures also refer to the number of people who live in households valued at £1m or more, rather than individual millionaires. This means two people aged 65+ living in a household worth £1m would both be included in the millionaire category, despite that wealth being split between them."
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
He seems to be leaving to avoid inheritance tax ... which also existed under the conservatives.
