nor agreeing
same as with the ifs view of the tories' plans
both labour and tories are faced with the same baked-in spending cuts and effective tax rises, neither are proposing any realistic solution, nor is any other party for that matter
the uk needs growth, not wasting time on populism, tax rises for feel good fantasies, and other unproductive nonsense
the tories have become divided, divisive, corrupt, anti-business, anti-freedom, anti-rights, they're broken, they laid down with dogs, they got up with fleas, and those fleas were carrying plague, they need to purge themselves of the contamination, to do that, they need to be out of government

If neither of them is reliable, you have to ask which one do you think is more likely to take responsible decisions if the stellar growth required to paper over the cracks does not appear immediately.
For me, it's not the "we won't increase any taxes, even if it means your local school falls down" party.

Also, tomgovern effectively and rebuild international relationships, the UK needs some fairly boring people who respect laws and other inconvenient norms, like shreds of truth.
I am afraid the Tories drank the Cool Aid under Johnson and realised that at that time they could basically do whatever the fuck they wanted, such as lie through their teeth, break the laws they just made, illegally perouge parliament, ignore international treaties, at least try to ignore the supreme court and lie through their teeth (worth mentioning twice).
It is much harder to persuade someone a second time after you've taken them for a fool already, so this approach is always going to run out of road.

I think you keep missing the fact that most of us 'Lefties' actually aren't massive fans of Labour but that they offer the best option. No-one expects them to do much other than be better than the Tories despite that being an incredibly low bar. The Tories have made such a mess that no-one is likely to think they'll see a significant turnaround in the term of a single Parliament and that unless taxes increase or borrowing goes up the depressing realism is that 'less bad' is the best we can hope for.

Given that the Tories still resort to blaming the GFC and Gordon Brown 15 years ago for their total lack of achievement, I think the Horlicks they've made of the UK since will provide labour with adequate political currency for a parliamentary term or two. That would only be fair.

Not really, as tax levels have gone up but these issues that you want fixing still persist. It may indcate that there is more to it than simply taxing and spending more, which is the leftie 'solution' to most things.

Whose policies are more likely to affect you after 4th July?

Do you not want any of the problems to be fixed?

Shit in the rivers and life being unfair are just facts and can't be improved on

Of the two main parties Labour under Starmer at least seem to have some kind of moral compass, respect for standards in public life and be motivated by the desire to improve the uk rather than their own bank balance. It's really hard to see what the Conservatives offer for anyone other than the wealthiest.

Negatively, IHT, if that changes. Doubt I'll ever have a large enough pension to matter if they raid that. Hopefully I'm living in my last house now so I don't care much about CGT.
Positively, hopefully, some infrastructure improvements, to rail, a few less potholes to risk my life cycling over. Hopefully incremental improvements in social care and thus the health service. That would be a huge step forward if anyone would achieve something meaningful. The drive towards green energy is a bit late compared to other countries, but really important, will create jobs and industry in the longer term and hopefully for me, some innovation. The related push towards green transport also vital, not just cars but aerospace and shipping. Fostering a better relationship with Europe, so it's easier to travel and perhaps even retire there.
From the Tories, I'd be a few quid better off a month. That's about it.
So, Stevo, there is quite a bit that the Tories have done and will continue to do that negatively impacts me personally, and quite a lot I'd like to give Labor the opportunity to do. Selfishly, I'll be voting Labour.

Was just interesting that he volunteered it without me asking. We were discussing the comparative madness in the UK and French elections as he's a dual citizen.

Everyone is putting up taxes. It's just a question of which ones and by how much.

Can the Justice process take more cuts?
I find it bizarre that the law and order party didn't seem to worry about it.

Sure. You could just not have courts. We could close all prisons. That would save a lot.

Since they're definitely not getting back in, why not just say no more taxes for anyone and free unicorn rides every Tuesday.

Well it's a step up from taxing more and spending less like the current lot. It's good that you admit the Tories have taxed more without fixing anything though, you are starting to see the issues we are all so bothered about.

Cos Reform have already beaten them to that one.

BB mentioned problems, so it's his shopping list.

Just as well you're not a massive fan. They are unlikely to improve much.

So who are you voting for?

But I asked you a question - you haven't answered. I found it an interesting form of words you used.
Maybe you think things are generally great and nothing needs fixing.

At least you're honest enough to say so. Maybe I should do a poll about voting intentions and flush out the shy lefties?

If you ask the right person I'm sure he will answer.

I'm genuinely interested in your opinions. If you aren't the right person to ask, tell me who and I'll ask them.

Tax is a big part of any general election.
It also a weakspot for Labour so the logical thing to do.
