Emigrating - to a new forum

Does it only work if you have a Google account? Appreciate that's a downside if so, but less of an ask than suggesting people have a FB account. Is there anything similar that doesn't need a specific type of account?
If it did kinda work, it might be the sort of place I might nudge one or two engaging/clever friends to have a look in, so wouldn't necessarily die, with some TLC. To a degree, the effective 'exclusivity' of CS is what makes the dialogue worthwhile, as pretty much every exchange is worth reading. People put quite a lot of time and thought into expressing their views, and bullsh*tters (Milemuncher etc) have been smoked out in the past.
@Stevo_666 - yes, agree, not needed yet, but if BR did suddenly pull the plug without warning, I'd genuinely miss the mix on here, and would mourn the loss.

At least with Facebook there's no need to be a real person with a real name. For example, my real name is Johnny Fartpants, but on Facebook I'm Helmut Honkeyhosen.
I don't use Facetube.

Ha, now I know you're not posh, as if you were your surname would be spelt 'ffartypants'.

Tbh I don't think the BR guys would pull the plug with no warning based on what I've seen of their (limited) interactions with us recently. Pretty sure they would tell us. The recent forum outages probably worried people a bit, but that's all they were.
Easiest backup plan would be that in the (unlikely) event of a sudden plug pull, we all decamp to another (pre-agreed) cycling forum.

Yeah, true, they seem pretty good eggs at BR. Only trouble at another cycling forum would be other people and active moderation: the (mostly) hands-off self-policing here is a plus, IMHO.

Would need to be unmoderated.

Yep, agree. But if we become Internet refugees we might not have a lot of choice.

Just why I'm spit-balling about alternatives at this point. If it were just another cycling forum to head to, as back-up, Cycle Chat seems to get plenty of traffic, even if it is at the 'Hello!' end of the market.

I think we should just troll the fuck out of the Christian Voice forum or something like that.

You are on it.

Would they be OK with the Big Girls thread coming back?
2 -
Probably, yes. But we'd need to be more careful with the caption competition and the US politics and stuff thread.

God's* work, innit.
*Well, sometimes doctors help. 🤣
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
I think it's almost done - is there another one for pro racing? Maybe it will pick up when the season gets started properly but I don't expect it.
Shame twitter is almost dead as well.

Reddit has something for everybody. I haven't looked at the quality of posts, but there is reddit.com/r/peloton/
I'm not sure I like the structure of Reddit though.
Cyclingnews also has its forums as I'm sure you are aware.

Actually, Peloton has got a really nice slightly more sophisticated version of PTP running, but unfortunately their season has already started as reddit didn't crash for a whole weekend.

The conversation threads format in Reddit is certainly a lot better than Facebook, where nobody seeems to read any of the preceding comments. It is a different feel to a forum though. Much less sense of knowing (even only a little bit) who you are talking to.

That thread made me think pangolin may be incorrect.
Nonetheless, it looks like it has promise for a Pro Race replacement. Just watching the Cav interview.

This will keep people happy too.
Don't post any spoilers, of any sort, outside of the designated threads. This rule is in effect for 18hrs after a one day race finish, or before the start of the next stage in a stage race.

Less Sky/Ineos obsession which is surely a good thing.

Maybe I take my comment back about it being quiet... It looks much more lively than I remember it being.
