Just booked family holiday in Canazei. So excited.
Dolomites, most beautiful mountains in the world.
At least Reinhold Messner and I think so.

    Yes, taking my bicycle of course.
    I did the maratona the last 2yr already. Pity this year its during school term.

    As you've already done it I'd focus on shorter routes in the mornings then spend the rest of the days with the family. It is a wonderful area!

    Yes! Been visiting there regularly since my teens in 1990. Even had a girlfriend in Canazei in the late 90s, funny thing we first met in boring flatland.

    We'll be booking a tunnel crossing for Italy in July/August and taking the bikes, a full Lake Como tour is in order for a few of us plus a few "lets potter about" type of days with the girls.

    A group of us are doing a fully supported week in July in the Dolomites plus the Stelvio. Looking forward to it.

    I don't generally mind the heat, and have had high 30s in the French alps quite frequently, including the 2015 Etape (39 degrees at bottom of final climb!) and 40 degrees when riding around Lake Annecy in 2019.

    I had 45C going along the valley and at the start of Mortirolo. Broke me*. 😢
    My personal scale. 30C hot. 35C too hot, 40C getting silly, 45C beer time. 😉

    *I went through 2 bidons in 3 kms, bailed on the climb then emptied 2 bidons (plus what I got at the van) in the last flat 10 kms to the hotel at 16 kms/hr.

    You know the area already?
    I lived 20yr-long not far from Lago di Como, so I know there very well.
    In short: for cycling is good, but not the best, hope you're lucky and not find too many cars.

    Here some random suggestions in the area:
    Bellagio - Ghisallo, 10km 556m
    Nesso - Sormano, 14km 800m
    Morbegno - passo Marco, 25km 1775m
    Tirano - p.sso Bernina - St.Moritz - p.sso Maloja - Chiavenna (maybe use the train from Lecco-Tirano, and again Chiavanna-Lecco)
    Tirano - Bormio - p.sso Stelvio (60km long, almost completely uphill, though the first 40-45km Tirano-Bormio the gradient is minimal)
    Tirano - Bormio - p.sso Gavia, 63km 2200m
    Tirano - Bormio - p.ssp Umbrail, 66km 2474m
    Tirano - p.sso Mortirolo, 22km 1423m

    Besides, I guess you're driving there, so obviously it'd be great if you manage some of the top alpine passes on the way to-from.

    At the end of the bonkers heatwave we had last July/August in the UK, I discovered that soaking a baselayer in cold tap water before putting it on and heading out the door was bliss... For ~30mins.

    I was then exponentially cooked alive.
