Owners of this rented place I'm vacating coming round this morning for a nose, but, what they gonna do? Chuck me out?

Then off to my favourite eye hospital clinic for another in the never ending series of pokes in the eye.

Plus more arranging, planning, booking etc.

Train again. Tired as awake early, bloody pesky sunshine and an east facing bedroom window. The sooner we get new 'blackout' blinds the better.

    Onwards to delegation and coffee.

They did they before I left my rented place - it was a new build and they'd bought it as a buy to let, and I was the first tenant so they hadn't seen the place. If they'd asked they could've come round sooner!

Neighbours being annoyingly noisy, but looks like the other one has got a job/interview so should be pleased really.

Usual rubbish on the ride to work, then found they've changed the locks on the basement where the bike parking is. When I got in via the building the bike racks were buried under stored building materials.
I should've just turned round and gone back home :middle finger:

Still managed a wobble in. Desperate for an evening picnic in the Isabella plantation or Bushey park with their Rhododendron displays, but No1 son has sats this week so will be helping him revise 😔

Hectic weekend, early night last night and I'm knackered.
Holiday next weekend so hopefully it'll be relaxing. I doubt it though as I'll no doubt field loads of calls by the pool/bar.

A smear of grease where the headset meets the headtube last night seems to have stopped my rattle a bit. That front brake piston is still sticky though. Heavy braking and it doesn't retract and so honks for a good 10-15 seconds while it eases back into place. Looking at replacement callipers - unfortunately my bike is old, so I have post mounts - the only ones I can find are sram etap ones - the fact that they are etap should make s0d all difference shouldn't it? They're just brake callipers? No interaction with the way the derailleur is moved?

Stone the crows I'm unfit. But a backpack with 3 days worth of clothes, a laptop and a pair of shoes doesn't help. That's what I'm blaming. Still, everyone else is positively glacial, and what's this thing where people have their saddles so low that their knees splay outwards by their ears?

I find it easier (or found it as haven't done it in a while) to drag a load of work kit in on the train or in the car and cycle in without all the excess baggage (obviously not counting any spare tyres we might have).

have you checked sjs etc. to see if they have the model of caliper you're after?

When work at the office was a 5 day thing I used to take 5 shirts (non iron, in one of these shirt carrier things), 5 lots of underwear and one of those really light microfibre towels on a Monday, and bring it home on Friday. I kept 2 suits at the office, which easy access to a dry cleaner. 8 out of 10 journeys backpack free.

It's the carting of the laptop now that adds the weight and p1sses me off. Not quite enough to get a frame bag. Unless I tweak my back by making love to a beautiful woman like poor Seano did.

get an extra laptop, or virtual laptop on usb that you can boot on another device, either cloudy datastore, or if you need higher security use a secure usb with some sync software each end, only takes a few seconds

i use one of these, gov/nato certified, bargain...

Sram brakes are definitely dot 5.1, as I bled the brake at the weekend, thinking that would solve the problem of the sticky piston, so I have a bottle of dot and the syringes etc.

I think that the sram red one I linked to should work - I have sram rival at the moment, and I suppose if I'm very careful, I could try and fit it without scratching it, and then connect up the hoses and pressurise the system if it's right, and send it back if it's not. The only thing worries me is the fact that it's etap, and not mechanical shifting, but like I said, I can't see that the brake calipers are different according to the shifting method.

Are mountain bike calipers still post mount? There seems to be more choice of MTB ones:

But Etap would make no difference to calipers. Best to stick with Sram due to fluid issues as mentioned above.
I ordered some cork coloured cork tape and a seat post last night, exciting stuff.

Crisp start, down to about 6 deg overnight, clear as a bell all day. More random clean up done - place this size has endless lots of that to fill in the spare moments.

Into town tomorrow, visit to optometrist, and a few other errands to tick off the list.

Grrrr. Just went down to pump up my tyres properly, as my home track pump wheezes like an 80 a day smoker and the pressure gauge is knackered. Span the front wheel a bit to bemoan the sticky piston, and realised that there's also something rattling around inside the bloody rim. Spent 15 mins trying to shake it
into position over the valve hole to poke it out, but no luck. I suppose some magical force that sungod could understand should mean that I can't hear it when in motion. It's not a spoke nipple, they're all present and correct, so what it is, I have no idea!

This is all adding up to a new bike.

Back from latest eye injection: 3/10 on the discomfort scale, not bad, but have a bleed / red eye, looks like I've been poked in the eye with summat. Did notice people giving me distance at the station and on the train.

Today's 'jings look at that': on the bus, at a stop, lots of e-scooterists passing by, then this lad on a motorised skateboard, no bars / handle, shooting along the road at what looked close to 30mph.

bit of debris from drilling, fragment of broken nipple, etc.

you'll only hear it when you brake and it tinkles down to the lowest point

if it bugs you, valve hole at the bottom, tap wheel to encourage debris to lowest point, use a magnet or bit of sticky tape to catch it and get it out

if you can't extract it, a smidge of glue in there would probably trap it

See, this is a result of all that lab time. Simple solutions.

I'm fcuking knackered. No gentle spin to get used to it. I'm pretending I've been riding 160km a week in all weathers for 10 years, rather than sitting on my @rse for 5 months. I'm 48 years old. What's left of my hair is grey, my kit doesn't fit. I have silly deep rims and a slammed stem which accentuates my gut. Why am I doing this? Cos it's brilliant. Even on London roads.

I had a good thrash back from work on the bike, despite the cross/head/tail wind (all at the same time)
Been sitting in work miserable and aching all day, now feeling much better :confused:

Bike racks are now unburied but there's some nice sharp twisted metal stuff with nails sticking out of it that we're expected to shuffle past to get to them. Ironically, we had a brief refresher on CDM this afternoon.

Main question for me would be: would you have a team at this new place - or is this one of those places where you're expected to do it all yourself? If the latter, bail out now.
