Thought it time we kicked things off so anything of interest can be posted here for folks to mull over.

For now, the latest startlist from a few sources, so teams can be cross checked:

    Really looking forward to this, looks a cracking hard route and a fairly open field in all departments.

    My favourite of the GT's. Looking forward to this immensely :)

    At least with QS picking Cav it removes (pretty much) any doubt as to whether he'd of gone to that other 3 week race...

    Looking forward to this, and have already ordered my Cycling Podcast wine selection to enjoy during the race.

    Have to say that I'm surprised that Damiano Caruso isn't riding, thought he'd be returning after his ride last year.

    Surprised Vlasov is going to France rather than Italy, as well as Caruso who looked on form in sicily (even if not riding for his team).

    The highest placed rider who competed in Romandie and is going to the Giro was Harold Tejada in 20th spot.

    In contrast, 10 of the top 11 in the Tour of the Alps will be starting.

    In terms of preparation for a GT
    Romandie is now ranked as the Swiss Tour of California.

    It's considered too close to the Giro. Anyone wanting to compete in the Giro seriously won't go to Romandie or at least won't compete for GC in Romandie.

    Fair do's, was more his 4th place last year and good form so far, combined with the much more stacked field in France that surprised me they've chosen to go with kelderman. Maybe he'll come good despite no form at all this year.

    Maybe now but it didn’t used to be. Dario Frigo won Romandie and was looking like winning the Giro, until there was a knock on his Sanremo hotel door.
    Also that year, Wladimir Belli was 3rd in Romandie and was 3rd in the Giro until he met Gibo Simoni’s cousin on Bondone.

    I'm not entirely sure that isn't an excuse anyway. It's like 5 days rest in between. Should be doable, especially since the parcours at Romandie was hardly super hard this year.

    Looks like Yates, Almeida and Carapaz are the favourites, with Bardet and Bilbao just below them. As is so often with the Giro though, you'd imagine mishaps will befall some of the favourites, especially if the weather is a bit grotty.

    The pessimism here is strong.

    Even Geraint Thomas managed to ride a perfect GY and look what happened.
    One of them might get lucky.

    No pessimism here - if you ignore the "masters class" riders over 35, there's 10 riders in the field who have finished on the podium in at least one GT.

    That combined with no massive favourite surely makes for some good racing.

    The team announcements are becoming a bit surreal (Trek). Like the Lotto one though
