not quite as nippy, but soggy roads due to rain

ride and cafes, more lazing

Gentle run, time with youngest rugrat as eldest is at his girlfriends. Then a long walk/jog with the current wife followed by pub - should be good

    Run runned.
Noticed yesterday that the car needs new tyres, and the tracking adjusting so that will be today's job. Might explain the sliding around the roundabouts recently.

    Fun, no? ^

Cloudless sky here but a bit brrr and windy. Tomorrow is set fair too with little wind - perfect for cycling.
Will do boring stuff today and recover from ABS sesh yesterday.

I wonder if les famille de Oxo are all hungover today.

Dunno about reality but Something is tearing holes in my sleep pattern. Another repeatedly broken night. Do I need to take a substantial nightcap hit or summat? 🤔

Anyway fog is lifting, glimmer of brightness, get organised and fueled and get out there. Hillier option beckons today but how gloopy do I want to get? Decisions, decisions.

Not so much because it means I can't floor it out of the tight roundabouts and junctions around here, which is more fun.

    Morning folks,
Traditional slow start is being enjoyed, coffee is the next stage. Been sampling different beans as the lad got me a variety pack for Christmas.
Daughter wants to come home after a week of exams, probably not a good idea if the lad is still testing positive. But feel mean saying no. She might come up but stay at the old dear's.
Might go for a longer walk on my own today as the EPO doesn't fancy it.
  • Sunny, cold and clear, solo ride coming on I think.

Good wee pootle, good for the state of mind and that. Lots of rideists, runists, walkists out and about. Do have to ask myself why on the return leg did I decide to take a grassy byway which is a bit rutted and lumpy in the 'dry' season rather than the perfectly fine and rather smooth gravel route? Muddy as xxxx. No offs though, thank you grippy front tyre. One v messy bike now been hosed down and about to get finished off.

    I def ain't no cyclocrosser 😊

Well this has turned into a fun day. Junior started feeling rough last night and slept badly so you know who drove up with her and am now on the train back. Nearly ended up missing the train as well after they closed the M40 for over an hour after a crash just ahead of us. Train is heaving as well, presumably due to all the Liverpool fans headed back to London.

Very glad female child is only in Sussex, picked her up and delivered her at the old dear's in a couple of hours. Driving back with the windows open a little to keep air moving just in case. All rather tedious. My beautiful assistant and another girl at work have tested positive over the weekend, very much feeling like when, rather than if, you get it now.
Hope stroptwentysomething is alright and you haven't got the plague Stevo

I'm sure I could catch worse from Scousers :) She'll be OK, seemed to perk up a bit after resting in the car. Just as well, got mid year exams tomorrow.

Good luck to her for the exams. That's why ours went back for a week, but now has nothing until next week, hence coming back again. But she's got to be in for a session next Monday morning, then going to a gig that evening, in Kingston 🙄 good job the students train fare is cheap

More workshop jobs getting ticked off the list. Even swapped bike on the trainer to try and solve back problems, not sure yet if it is any better. Long walk late afternoon was a nice bit of serenity.

Interesting thought - I suppose you could rig one up on a wheel-off trainer?

Have considered getting one of those “elliptical” trainer things. Normal treadmill bores me stupid, so I’d probably just end up with a variation on the type of boredom. Anyone used one??

i had to use one during rehab/physio after breaking my hip, definitely boring

it was a huge one in a specialist centre, with some extra degrees of freedom, subsequently tried 'normal' ones in gyms and liked them even less, they combined boring with annoying

when using gyms on my travels, much prefer a decent treadmill, easier to put on some music and zone out

    how about a rowing machine?

Ah ok, that may be a good clue. I have relatively significant spondylolisthesis in L5 which manifests as *extremely* tight hip flexors. Cycling doesn’t help with the range of motion limitation. I need something that will allow that full range of extension for hips. Running does work, but I thought I’d try and get some extra work for upper body at same time if I have to do it indoors.

I’d rather run outdoors any day - just that round here, the trails are rough enough that I’m prone to joint injuries.

I have a rowing machine and it’s good - just doesn’t get the hip extension I need. (I think).

wouldn't an elliptical trainer gives less range of hip movement than cycling?

after months on crutches i had very tight hips/lower back, the physio gave me a whole series of different stretches to do, then added lunges, i ended up more flexible than before the injury

I see my physio on Wednesday, will see what she says. I’m just looking to postpone the inevitable surgeries as long as possible! Pretty sure I’m in for an op on the neck this year, be nice to avoid the double… lol
