BREXIT - Is This Really Still Rumbling On? 😴

Hang on, Hang on. That chart shows a catastrophic drop in tarde as a % of GDP at a time when GDP was contracting...rick_chasey said:
... and yet TBB regularly posts up a graph showing that trade with EU and ROW is hunky dory.
I believe his excludes services but if that is the only difference then there really has been a sensational drop in that area0 -

I suppose there would be some poetic justice given how screwed NI has been over the centuries, if a result of Brexit was that it races ahead economically in comparison with Brexit Britain.0 -

Much as I loath the xxxx, Cummings was entirely correct about Frost's dilemma.
He can't move in any direction, as he has no idea from one moment to the next what Boris's position is or what he'll support.

If you want an argument for staying in the single market…
Exactly so. I think it's one of the reasons that Boris Frost has been trying to screw it up for NI yet again, so there's not the example of what's been forfeited in the name of sovrintee.0 -

Maybe so, but Frost seems to have been doing it with relish all the same.0 -

Yeah that’s the BoE chart up thread
It's more that it's The Express featuring it. If they've cottoned on... ah, maybe it's all the EU's fault for not having internal borders, or some dastardly scheme like that...0 -
Look I know everyone feels that the govt can lie forever but eventually the gravity of reality does bring stuff back to earth.
The reason the brexiters have stopped posting on this thread is plainly because it’s not going well. If it was they’d be crowing relentlessly.0 -

What's really weird is that those of us who were staunchly in the remain camp haven't been cheering Britain's dismal performance, as I thought we were supposed to.0 -
I must admit seeing colleagues laid off as a direct result of lost sales into the EU didn't make me feel much like cheering our failure. Silly me. Maybe it's just I'm not as much of a w⚓ as those that thought we'd be crowing.briantrumpet said:rick_chasey said:Look I know everyone feels that the govt can lie forever but eventually the gravity of reality does bring stuff back to earth.

I think my analogy of a patient insisting on an amputation for an ingrowing toenail still works: the doctor's not going to be able to celebrate the pointless loss of a leg, but might say "Well, I did warn you that the novelty of hopping might wear off", even if the operation had been done without any actual immediate problems (unlike Brexit) and the pain of the toenail had gone.0 -
It's mostly the self-help thread for the hardcore now.
I can't remember the last time Brexit was brought up by a colleague.2 -
You probably haven't been affected by it that much then. It's quite a topic of conversation in our industry.TheBigBean said:It's most the self-help thread for the hardcore now.

You think it's a non-issue then, politically and economically?0 -

Affected, but nothing is likely to change, so nothing to discuss.veronese68 said:

Not even the Express agrees with you. I hate to tell you this, but it'll still have an impact, even if you ignore it.0 -
The current situation is shit and likely to remain shit so there is no point in discussing how shit it is. Okay.TheBigBean said:

This isn't how politics works, or history. The EEC/EU has been discussed since we joined it, and that got us to where we are today.0 -

It's maybe the closest to a confession that it's a pile of poo that we're going to get from TBB. It's the equivalent of putting fingers in ears and going "la la la".0 -
You're inferring something I didn't say. Affected does not mean the apocalypse, or worse, briantrumpet's view.pblakeney said:
