    Frikkin windy here.
I got woken up at 4am by it. Thankfully, the ground here is not waterlogged and I can see no real damage but it needs to ease up as it's the local fireworks display this evening.
Jack is not a happy bunny. I had to escort him out for morning ablutions. According to him, this is the end of the world.

    Will watch the cyclo x.

just had a quick mince pie, cafe three beckons

not yet 1100 and already a life crowded with incident

Meh, need to do a longish run but drinking till 4:30 wasn’t the best idea
  • Skipped the dog walk this morning, in favour of starting the big clean up job round an old tree out in the paddock. Has been left far too long, lots of weedy undergrowth, and a medium mountain of dead dropped branches and stuff to clear up. Given today's progress, there's a solid week's work in it still to do.

Burned a fair bit of it already this afternoon, as most of it is not worth keeping for actual winter firewood - too small and crackly. Besides there's another dozen or more large trees still laying about down there to be cut up and stacked away.

    Back on taxi duty tomorrow.

Morning folks, but not for long as it has less than a minute to go. Should I start again with an afternoon post then?

Afternoon folks, traditional slow start was enjoyed. It was briefly interrupted by a phone call about 7.30 from my aged and doolally uncle. Thankfully I didn't get to it in time and it went to voicemail. Apparently he couldn't find the teabags in our kitchen, but he knew it was Sunday and hoped we were having a nice day. Thankfully he wasn't actually in our kitchen, that would have been a worry. They've sorted out care for him and he should be out of hospital Thursday.

Off to the old dear's with the family shortly, haven't had both kids around at the same time for ages.

Good lie in, dropped in to see some of the new neighbours then went out for my first bike ride in near on 3 weeks. Going up the North Downs Ridge probably wasn't the best option for a first ride in a while, but I made it and got a feel for the route into work. Feel much better now as well.

Dog walk later once they've digested their food and woken up.

    Here's my postingbollox.

Ride rided, just a short one, first in 2 weeks 😳 given other commitments plus Stormy Daniels last weekend. Poor planning = return headwind. Still, it is good for body and mind to get out there.

Some equipment fettling to do, before it gets dark way too soon.

I'm also looking for mudgauards for the Gios, but - for example SKS - all info is numbers which I have no idea what they're referencing...

So does anyone want to school me? The bike has proper mounting points, so I'd be looking to fit something proper with a buddy flap. In mudguard weather, I run Spesh Roubaix 25/28s and the calipers are long drop.

    SKS raceblade long for eyelets.
Then you get your muddy flaps.
You can also revamp them like wot I did if you are handy:

I've got some 35mm chromoplastics you can have, I'm now on 37mm tyres so they are too small. Might need new stays as the mounts on my bike are raised a little. Isn't the Gios too nice for guards?

    Mudguard update.

I went back to the place where the mudguard got slung after jamming the back wheel. I intended to dispose of it properly but got thinking. I thought 'Why don't I take the plunge with the pop riveter?' after all, nothing to loose and looking at buying another pair...

First step, saw the end off the mudguard and the offending clip as I thought it was too flimsy to rivet. Instead of removing the whole insert and clip, decided to keep a bit of it to add a bit of stength,

    40f081eedde55a2128302425a7f8c594.jpg

...and then drill a hole in it. This was simple as there is a little u shaped indent on the underside which meant there was no guessing/measuring/marking the middle to drill the hole dead centre.

    d37b1297b039fbd7ee6ba3b0128bc2f6.jpg

Success, rivet didn't smash the mg to bits:

    1ecf83f34f6305890cf71820b415eba4.jpg

...and then bashed the clips that go into the skewers flatter to increase their length and provide a little more tyre clearance. My rear stays being of the carbon type don't have the curve to the seat stay which made this possible:

    9ef1a44a764cf536e8505af39c6f5a7b.jpg

    Then fit:

    356d138b934d6539c1ea15180776f919.jpg

Not too agricultural looking and I did the same to the front one as well as losing the flappitty short one that goes in front of the front brake caliper that does nowt anyway. The mg now feels solid on the bike and hopefully won't flap like it did before.

Now I realise my bike needs a good clean.

Add these to your shopping list. They make an easy mounting point for the crud catchers:

If he's got proper mounts and long drop brakes he doesn't need to faff about with all that, just get full length 'guards. 35mm plenty wide enough to clear 25/28mm tyres

Proper mounts here, yep! Thanks for all the help chaps, and @veronese68 I’ll likely take you up on that, but let’s wait til I’m back with fixed abode. Very kind!

I figured it will be my wet weather bike, rather inevitably, and guards will help protect it.
