Half way, Flueckinger out ahead of groups at 30s and 50s in conditions that are frankly insane...

Not sure where Pidcock is but it's a long way back (by his standards)

He got caught behind a crash according to Ineos Twitter

Apparently, a DNF - which may not be the worst decision. Still recovering from a broken collar bone, going down wouldn't be great....

Apparently he's dropped out. He was 12th. Taking it easy I think. There were quite a few crashes.

Last lap - Ondrej Cink could be about to spoil Flueckinger's party here.

How they are still riding these "grass" slopes is beyond me...

Nope - Flueckinger wins with enough time to remove his filthy jacket to show off his almost equally filthy jersey.

Cink, Sarrou, Hatherly and Schurter round out the podium.

Think I saw somewhere that Pidcock is riding a BMC. Think I. Kind of surprised because a lot of his most recent successes have been on a specialised. Wonder if somebody somewhere said he couldn’t/wouldn’t ride one?

Yes, he is; either the Hardtail Twostroke, or the Full Suspension Fourstroke. Shimano XTR groupset, SR Suntour suspension/ shocks, and Conti tyres.

One assumes Ineos/ Pinarello didn't want him continuing on Specialized bikes - but that's just guesswork.

Suntour must have moved on then? I associate them with budget forks on Halfords bikes.

I always associated Suntour as a “budget” brand too. Seemingly they’re not as a lot of riders use them in all mtb disciplines

I think someone bought them out (or vice versa) about 5-10 years ago and they've gone big since then...

They can't be that bad as I think Sarrou won the Worlds last year with them when riding for BMC Absolute Absalon.
I think it's that most teams tend to use either Rockshox or Fox.

  • Will the 2020 U23 men's world champ buy his predecessor a beer for opening the door to Tokyo 2020?

Tom Pidcock, Olympic XC champion. (And younger than Jenny Rissveds was in Rio 2016.) What a story.

I can't really get into this short course stuff but I just saw Reece Wilson's downhill preview. Challenging.

Enjoyed watching the shortbtrack, 7 laps, just over 21 minutes.

Won't spoil the result for anyone who has yet to watch it.

Bbc solo commentator was pretty meh.

    Eurosport one was better.

    I'm routing for PFP tomorrow.
    Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
Marin Palisades Trail 91 and 06
    Scott CR1 SL 12
    Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2
    Scott Foil 18

I was going to say, Could be a great chance for Evie...

Gutted for her (although I'm sure she won't be - expect lots of instagram photos of labrador's wearing silver medals...)

(Yes, I added the spoiler warning - seems sensible given the rest of the thread)

((you need to watch it on redbulltv...))

Having watched the aftermath, I actually think she was gutted...

She seems to have a real knack for XCC over XCO

His TV work on Hardline was excellent; he seems a natural broadcaster. His comment about 'punctures' may come true; to say it's a gnarly course is an understatement.

How he manages to give a commentary whilst tacking that monster I have no idea.

Definitely worth watching the women's XC currently. It's on the BBC red button.
