All along the coast into the costa del sol until a little detour inland to go up a climb with a section of 4.5km at over 9% average. 17km descent into the finish.

Looks like a day when there'll be a fight to get in the breakaway, which we won't get to see.

Should be a bit of action for the GC seeing who attacks Roglic up another steep climb.

Start at 11:15 BST, KM0 at 11:47 BST, TV coverage starts at 13:50 BST

    OK guys.

Start town, near the Punta Entinas – Sabinar, a unique "biosphere"

Finish in a lesser known part of the Costa del Sol

Local food, mainly known for everything being deep fried ( no doubt part of the love affair brits have with it).

    Puntillitas battered and fried.

Must also mention Gazpacho - there are mainly versions of this all over the world but the Andalucian version is the one that has captured the global attention.

local booze, well, Sierra de Malaga is the local wine around there - some of the oldest vinyards in the world.

It is also of course in the region where sherry is very popular (albeit a little more west).

Will start watching the Vuelta today (head's been a shed and I haven't really focused on anything for about three weeks). So thanks for the thread starter, chaps.

The little lump at the end will make for an interesting stage, I reckon.

Nerja was luvverly. Caves are something special too, and you get a view of that aqueduct on the way. Too hot for me in the summer though.
Would be a nice location in the other 3 seasons. Some nice nippy climbs going inland.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

The team believe this is one of their best chances for a stage win.

    No break after 70km.

I can't see this one sticking: Attack by CARAPAZ Richard (INEOS Grenadiers)

Peloton split. May need a klaxon

Might still be a race going when the TV cameras switch on.

Jakobsen in the second peloton, 48 seconds back. Not good news for anyone's breakaway hopes.

    Absurdly so . It's a strange aesthetic

This is why it has seemed a bit underwhelming. That's at least two days when the TV coverage has missed well over an hour of good racing. Now they've got live coverage, there's nothing much going to happen for another hour.

Initially when they went live the screen went blank and stayed that way for a number of minutes.

They are saying now that it couldn't have been predicted that it was going to be a tough start to today's racing. With that finish it was always going to be a day when everyone wanted a go in the break, because the sprint teams weren't going to chase.

Typically my Astana breakaway specialist pick is not in the front group while other options I considered are (Narvaez was nearly my wildcard pick but thought he'd be under orders).
  • Carlton (seeing a couple of riders stretching their legs by getting out of the saddle): "Sean, a bouncing day, I think you might say..."

    WTF?

Quite lumpy despite only having one categorised climb. Is it a headwind and both the break and peloton look really slow.

Not seeing the stage start is annoying when there's a fight to get in the break, but let's face it, most Vuelta stages are 100km of dual carriageway followed by a bump or two of varying sizes
