Welcome to the 17th Annual PTP Competition

Let's hope that this year all the races do happen and maybe even in the order they are scheduled. I have some doubts, but we bash on. Tour de Yorkshire is an early casualty...

As ever, am happy to maintain the master spreadsheet, but would really appreciate all the help I can get to score PTP through the year. Please volunteer and let me know what you can or can't do, particularly the GTs. Also let me know if there are any that you particularly want to do! It's very simple and I'll can send you a googlesheet template closer to the day with a reminder to start the PTP thread.

How to Play

Playing along with PTP is extremely simple - you don't have to sign up or join anything other than the Bikeradar forums. If you're already a member here, that means you're already eligible to play.

A few days before each of the chosen races, a PTP thread will be started in the Pro Race forum. That thread will contain a selection of useful links - start lists, race maps, past winners and so on. All you have to do is consider who you think is likely to win and post their name in that thread. It's that simple. If the race in question is a stage-race, you also get to predict the daily stage winners.

Post your pick in the relevant PTP thread before the cut off. If you change your mind then please post as a new post rather than editing your old post.

As you play, your scores will be added up and the overall season rankings will be updated in this thread. I'm dropping the spring classics mini-championship as I don't get the impression there is much interest and its a faff to sort - especially if races start getting moved around.

Scoring

TdF = Tour de France / G/V = Giro/Vuelta / Reg = Regular season

GC and one-day winners:

TdF | G/V | Reg
1 | 100 | 85 | 50 |

3 | 60 | 50 | 35 |

5 | 50 | 40 | 25 |
6 | 45 | 35 | 20 |
7 | 40 | 30 | 15 |
8 | 35 | 26 | 10 |

15 | 8 | 7 | |
16 | 6 | 5 | |
17 | 5 | 4 | |
18 | 4 | 3 | |
19 | 3 | 2 | |
20 | 2 | 1 | |

Stage winners:

TdF | G/V | Reg
1 | 12 | 10 | 6 |
2 | 10 | 8 | 5 |
3 | 8 | 6 | 4 |
4 | 7 | 5 | 3 |
5 | 6 | 4 | 2 |
6 | 5 | 3 | 1 |
7 | 4 | 2 | |
8 | 3 | 1 | |
9 | 2 | | |
10 | 1 | | |

Doping
Points are finalised once the race organisations publishes their results. No adjustments will be made if it later emerges that a rider has failed a drugs test or if a rider has wins retrospectively removed from their palmares.

Prediction Cut-off
Always the contentious one! The cut off is 12pm (noon) on the day of the race. This is strict so predictions at 12.01 won't be counted (exceptions made for split-stages, evening prologues etc). No GC selections will be accepted once a stage-race has begun.

    Hi dish.

I’m happy to help out again in 2021.

Obviously I’m still reeling from the Tour de Yorkshire being cancelled again so I don’t have any particular preferences for which races I score.

I was hoping to go to the Tour this summer however I think it’s safe to say that’s not happening and I’ll be working from home forever. So you can put me down for whichever races need looking after.

Happy to help again although as you probably know by now I am rubbish at remembering what I've agreed to!

I am supposed to be away during the Tour de Suisse, although that might not actually happen.

Hey dish, there is a typo mistake for Kuurne in the first post. Should (obviously) be Feb. not March. No biggie, just so no one is confused with getting picks in on time.

I'll go for GC Carapaz. I'll leave stages until an official thread. But it's on the calendar so I expect points if he does well.

    If it is happening then..

    GC Alaphilippe
    Stage 1 Bissegger

On the basis that I won't be able to watch this week and posting will be tricky, I vote to cancel.

    My method is either

    Shortest odds + INRNG cross-reference

    or

copy the person above (or the first person above who I agree with)

Depending on how close to the deadline it is. I haven't done any real thinking of my own... I suppose that's why I am in 5th not 1st though.

Would be great if there was an option for all picks to be secret until the race starts and time to make picks has expired.

Yeah I wasn't saying there should be more work for those scoring. Would need to be automatic via the forum. Otherwise it doesn't make sense.

Always happy to see how we can improve things, but practically I don't think there is a way that the forum would let us to anonymous picks. And to be honest, part of the fun is seeing what other people are picking! :)

I don't think that anonymous picks will change much. People generally pick the usual suspects. Although one year around 2010 I vowed not to pick anyone whose name began with C as the stock choices were Contador, Cavendish and Cancellara.
