I have to say I really liked the Pictogram guys in the opening ceremony.

However, following the parade of 200 countries with celebrities signing Imagine -"Imagine there's no Countries" - is very dumb.

Can we keep this for bikes and anything else in here? https://forum.bikeradar.com/discussion/13116471/the-tokyo-2020-1-olympics-thread-spoilers-not-the-road-race-cycling#latest

I liked the emoji guys too. The comedian's shtick didn't really travel.

Since when has expertise come into the equation when offering an opinion on Olympic sport? Everyone will be an armchair expert on skateboarding, surfing and sport climbing in minutes just as they are with taekwondo, judo, archery or, in winter, curling.

Good god there are other parts to the forum. This is like the end of the film The Village (which I liked more than most)

It will probably end up talking about motorways or brexit, but worth a try not to pollute pro race with artistic swimming.

That climb with 30km to go in the road race looks serious. 4km of it at 12% should sort out anyone who isn't Slovenian (or Caruso maybe). Could be a good chase for those who get dropped, there might be far enough to make it back. Looking forward to this.

It's the reason I'm surprised so many have gone for WVA on PTP.

I am thinking Remco will go long. 1 Slovenian will drop WVA on that berg, but that it will come back together and Wout will win a reduced sprint. The Rio road race shook out less hard than the parcours predicted and the climb is rather far this time from the finish. Figure the Belgian team shouldn't be caught out or surprised.

The only reason I didn't go for Pogacar is me being worried the fatigue from the Tour would catch up with him here. Wout seemed to be getting into better and better shape (degrading less). Albeit Pogacar also won 2 MTF's just for fun at the end.
Really think it's super open. Could be anyone among Pogacar, Roglic, WVA, Mollema (going long), Kwiatkowski etc.
Shame MvdP isn't riding. I'd pick him if he was! 😛

Seems to be a break of 5 including Juraj Sagan with over 16:00 minute lead 140km to go. Huge lead but was closer to 20:00 a few km back.

    Guess who’s already crashed?

    That’s right, Thomas and TGH

GvA and Slovenia doing most of the work. Greg especially looks like he wants to make it hard

I player. They seem to put it on and off on the bottom right.

Forecast chance of some rain at the end - might be some more Rio style carnage

Same pictures on iPlayer and Eurosport. I guess a common feed.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I can do the surfing. A Brazilian will win the men's event. Waves are likely to be small and crappy and they've got by far the best surfers in those conditions

Gap to the break comes and goes but distance to go seems to have been constant for me. Is Peter Sagan riding? My assumption when I saw Juraj in the break was it is so his brother can just sit in.

Gawd, the BBC commentary is boring.
Back over to Eurosport even with the ads, even if they bring in CK. 🤣🤣🤣

Some amateur action at the feed station. I hope the peloton are a bit more organised

Peloton splitting, probably due to feed station. Break look exhausted.
