U-turn on opening, guess the date

Since U-turn is the new norm, can you guess the exact date when new/old restrictions will come back into force?

I say September 13th

The numbers will suggest much earlier but due to reluctance...
    September 20th.

Restrictions being masks and social distancing.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I think it's too late and they are too concerned about what the fucktards think to follow sensible advice. I'm sure they are panicking, worried about what people will think rather than number of deaths. There will be new restrictions brought in at some point I suspect.

Confidence down a cliff, it seems!

I've just informed London-Edinburgh-London organisers that I won't be volunteering at a control next year, as it was the original plan, before it was postponed. I just don't see this epidemic coming to a point where it is really safe to live the way we used to and a control point where 2,000 tired and sweaty riders pass through over 24 hours seems to be a super spreader.

I'm probably negative, but rarely wrong... in mid February 2020 I was trying to convince my boss that there was no way this was not going to be washed on our shores and we should have planned for closure and cancel all events and meetings... admittedly I didn't expect this to last this long and I thought we would be done by the summer of 2020...
If anything, I was a bit optimistic...

If we go down your route that vaccines aren't working and the take up rate is low (neither of which is backed up by what I've heard experts say) then we may as well give up.

On one hand you are saying there's no solution and on the other you are giving up doing anything you enjoy until this is over.

Sorry, new restrictions for autumn. I'll stick my pin on the 24th September for the announcement, restrictions starting on 4th October to give all the idiots 10 days to spread themselves far and wide.

What sort of restrictions are we talking here ?

Masks in shops - possibly - another "lock down" with shops closed no chance.

By Autumn surely it's as good as it'll get in terms of vaccination.

Ferguson talks of a long wave with a flat peak, possibly extending to September, bit like I said yesterday or the day before in the other thread.
The uncertainty is on the numbers... if we touch 200K a day, then there will be chaos at all levels...
    What measures?

Masks in closed spaces is obvious, but I am thinking more in terms of office/building occupancy, basic Covid secure workplaces to make a comeback, most likely restrictions to the number of customers in venues and pubs... but it could go further... I wouldn't be surprised if there was a restrictive set of rules for non vaccinated

I'm gonna have to investigate the dates of any by-elections coming up to guess a daye for Johnson to start closing things down and annoying people.

He will annoy a few millions, between NHS and associated healthcare workers if he doesn't... it's not all drunks and gammons... there are decent people out there

The NHS gave up on any sort of planning he didn't come up with about 18 months ago. They are now firefighting.

Essential workers such as delivery drivers and people who work in shops detest the middle classes who began looking down their noses at them again once everything started opening up.

The tourism and hospitality industries think heisadick

Its down to grass roots/traditional cuntservatism to keep him in power

Amusing rationale in a recent paper article about the reason for the U-turns:

"Forget the four steps of the Prime Minister’s roadmap. You don’t need a PhD to understand the formula of how every single government U-turn has come about.

Step 1: Mr Johnson, conscious of the economic calamity being caused by lockdown and mindful of the timebomb of non-Covid conditions waiting to explode, calls for restrictions to be lifted.

Step 2: Modellers release a worse-case scenario suggesting the NHS is in danger of being overwhelmed, if not now, then certainly by winter.

Step 3: Scientific group thinkers perhaps motivated by a self-interest in lockdown that may have been influenced by socialist tendencies take to the airwaves insisting that the “irresponsible” Prime Minister is unnecessarily putting lives at risk.

Step 4: The unions and opposition mobilise to suggest the #Toryscum of a Government is getting it wrong, aided by a largely Left-leaning Twitterati of middle-class armchair experts who quite like working from home.

Step 5: Those with a dissenting view who dare to suggest the modellers may be overegging it are denounced as quacks while a letter, signed by their detractors, is submitted to the BMJ or The Lancet warning against the “dangerous and unethical” ditching of masks and social distancing.

Step 6: Increasingly concerned by the growing media backlash, and persuaded by polling which unsurprisingly suggests that a terrified public is afraid of being lifted out of lockdown, Mr Johnson backs down."

Step 4 sounds strangely familiar :)

If that's true, it means johnson has hit upon the formula for the worst possible result.

Weird that it needs saying, but hospitals with lots of covid patients and isolating staff aren't going to be doing great work on reducing the backlog mentioned in step 1.

That sounds like a really long-winded way of saying Johnson goes whichever way the wind blows.

It's very Tory to make the assumptions in steps 3 and 4 that only exclusively self interest could be motivating anyone's opinions.

    It's been a consistent theme.
