Odd tactics from Jumbo (should I be surprised?)
All Vingegaard’s climbing support have gone up the road.

All Vingegaard’s climbing support have gone up the road.

Either Vingegaard has a plan for an early attack or the big names there have decided they're not at the Tour to put a kid on the podium.

Pre stage Kuss was saying they'd be allowed to get in the break and could always drop back if needed, but if Jonas is alone and needs a bike that's not much help

Mind you, the break is splintering already. Perhaps they thought they needed three to try for the eventual lead group, and once that's gone can drop back

He’s only got Teunissen with him and although he’s not bad I wouldn’t call him a climber….

Been keeping an eye on Bouhanni. He's basically losing as much time to the peloton as the peloton is to the leaders, now 8'30" behind. Slightly surprised he's not climbed off yet.

He probably will when gets to a feed zone and a soigneur can pick him up

The day's entertainment from the Danish commentary team, Rolf and Chris Anker trading nightmares:

Rolf: was riding a climb that just got steeper and steeper, until he needed climbing gear and didn't know how he'd get over it

Chris Anker: the mechanics had forgotten our bikes and we had to run. We couldn't keep up and our DS was giving us a bollocking while we tried to explain we were running

That's just the reality for me everytime the road goes uphill
  • Missed the start, just catching up.

Blimey, that’s a rather big breakaway.

Bouhanni about 24 minutes down at the sprint point

Now 16 minutes behind the peloton. Looked like he was more or less soft-pedalling at this point:

It seems wrong to say climbed off, he more dismounted.

Not really a surprise, given how much he's struggled with climbs throughout this tour.

I am beginning to wonder if Ned Boulting has dementia.
Jasper Philipsen hasn’t beaten Cav this season?

So Bouhanni, Merlier both gone today.

Phillipsen and WVA the only ‘sprinters’ left alongside Cav.

    It’s coming home (to Paris).
Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.

How many wins does Greipel have to get to be considered a sprinter?

Didn't Merlier abandon about 4 days ago?

    Stages 6&7 in Turkey

Edit - also won Scheldeprijs after Bennett and Cavendish got in each other's way (and in Cavendish's case, possibly into Bennett's head)

Cav group out the back now.

30s adrift of the Yellow group at about 9min 500m from the top of this climb.

    Should be safe today

I'm not on ITV - Boulting said that Philipsen hadn't beaten him this year, I assume?

Further to the Vingegaard conversation on Eurosport and watching WVA now contesting the KoM points: I hope he has the sense to jump ship ASAP.

Much is made of Ineos not giving young riders a chance but I am sure they were in the same position they would be behind him.

Meanwhile David Millar, who hasn’t had the Belgian tv feedback thinks it a good tactic.

9 minutes is a heck of a lot of resting up and dropping back

Cav get back onto the yellow jersy group over the top of the Mont Louis climb.
