Are Roglic and Pogacar doing any races before the Tour? Seems unusual to skip both the Dauphine and Tour de Suisse.

Pogacar said on his website that he was down for the Dauphine

but Roglic was always planning to have no racing between LBL and the Tour. Can't think of many who have done that.

    Nope. Interesting tactic

    A solid 12.32 for Dumoulin - currently 6th

Not great for Dennis. Was there a change in conditions favouring later starters?

No idea. The weather doesn't seem to be good for anyone.

Mattia Cattaneo goes third fastest -12.12

Stage now over. I'm not sure who the GC riders are in this race.

Looking at the highlights it looks as though it was wetter earlier on.

When I saw the result, I thought he must have done a Geraint.
Although he may just have done a Ganna, pre Giro, as it's a surprisingly low par result.

Conditions were wet, so maybe Dennis didn't take any risks. Would be disappointing to miss the Tour after stacking it chasing a time in a meaningless short TT.

Sounds reasonable, haven't had the chance to watch so had no idea what the conditions were like.

Just had a quick glance and it was wet when Dennis was on course, compared to later.
Surprised that Ineos didn't plan for a change in conditions, as they usually factor this into rider order.

The racing may have crossed over the Alps but the race has picked up the same awful weather as the Giro.
The downhill and technical finish is going to be very tricky.
Who will gamble their Tour by taking the risk?
    Mmmm now let me think....

Struggling to work out what group is what but the peloton split quite a bit on the descent under pressure from MvdP among others and everyone seems flat out. Two Swiss (Tombola and another) being pursued by two Canadians from Rally.

Split in the peloton with Pozzovivo the wrong side along with half of Ineos (including Dennis) and Dumoulin with most of JV. Quite a substantial gap but front group seems to have eased off a bit. Unusual for Rowe to be the wrong side of that sort of split, they don't seem to concerned though as Carapaz has some support in the front group.

Bohli and Imhof are the leaders. Bohli struggling on an unclassified climb with 16k to go and now dropped.

Van Der Poel is a great rider to watch. Put it all out there, and then managed to get Schachman to give him a breather before the sprint.

MvdP climbed well then rode away with Schachmann before easily taking the win. Didn't expect him to make it over those climbs. Looks like Kung managed to hold on to yellow. Carapaz looked strong and almost closed to the two chasing just behind Schachmann and MvdP before it came back together.

Rui Costa lost it on a manhole in the final few hundred metres and threw his bike across the road in temper.

Those who went with Dennis in PTP will be disappointed, I think he rolled in with the group about 4 minutes down.

Kung retains yellow by 1" from JA who surprisingly hadn't stuck to van Der Poel like a limpet.

Is MvdP riding the Tour this year? Or is this part of his olympics warm up? If so, what a waste

There's a few stages in the first week he'll fancy, then maybe the one to Quillan. He'll win at least one, surely.
