Some of us were doing 22’s within 2 seasons 35 years ago when the only power metre was the thing that told you how much lecy you had used and aero was something in the sky.
Short 25’s on a sporting course is nothing to write home about.

How do you I have been able to keep that form going. You nothing about me. It’s a pity you have not only no talent but not much commitment either. Will you be asking for a rule change when things don’t go to plan. A bit like when you couldn’t win the most 100k s in a year. >:)

You don’t seem committed to any training that might be outside your comfort zone.
Something that has been proven to work.

If racing is training. Racing 6 times in 8 weeks is about a weeks worth of effort for most people but then again you know best.
I wonder what ever happened to a road race or time trial on Saturday or Sunday, road race league or time trial league on Thursday. Or sometimes riding another areas R/R on the Tuesday or even a two day event on the weekend.
But be careful you don’t want to over train or over race.

Most clubs no longer do TT at weekends, only Open events. I do enter open events, but I am not prepared to travel long distance for them. Last one in the area was May 2nd. Next one is June 5th.
Many club races in May got cancelled, otherwise I would have probably done 10 or more, instead of 6. I do ride about 8 hours a week and it's all "training" as such, as I work from home and no longer commute, maybe not the kind of training you think will work... but then again, knocking 90 seconds off my PB over a couple of months doesn't look to bad in my view, that's 9 seconds per mile... opinions, of course. The absolute time doesn't mean a lot, I will probably never do a 22 with a standard road bike, I don't have your engine. I think I can get to a point where I post 23s regularly, maybe this summer or maybe next year.
Ultimately, the real goal is the hill climb season.
"I am not prepared to" never won or achieved anything.

I’ve been training slow and short ride fast and long once a week and pretty much avoiding hills yet my climbing is probably the best it’s every been, I’m hoping to do my first hill climb season this year see you out there Ugo hopefully
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

You are very welcome to sponsor me and I'd be happy to travel longer distances for Open events...
Realistically, I try to do my bit and reduce car mileage... I always feel a bit guilty to drive 200 miles and ride 20 minutes, so I try to minimise it...
But you are very welcome to sponsor me, buying me an electric car and I'd be happy to travel longer distances for Open events...
    sponsorship requires proof of dedication.

swimmers can show countless 4am training sessions followed by full days of school and work followed by more training.

Proper cyclists give up everything, move to Belgium or Italy or wherever, share a flat and ride countless sh'xty races to make a name for them selves.

Unfortunately you aren't even prepared to drive down the road.

you won't even drop a bloke who has been thrre done it an email.

A diet of unstructured non-interval type of riding seems to be working. I'm doing a mix of 10 mile TT racing and training sessions consisting of reasonably paced rides with 1-3 full on efforts of 1-2 minutes (400-500 Watt).
At the moment, all numbers are up from last year, including the coveted 20 minute thing.
I just need a few races to build up my qualifying portfolio. I have entered a race in the Peak District at the end of June... should be a sub 3 minute hill, on a good day. I really need a good result!
Beating Simon Warren would be even better, but I suspect that won't happen...

Don't the 1-3 full on efforts count as intervals? Actually sounds fairly structured to me - mix of 20ish min threshold intervals and shorter VO2 intervals. I guess unstructured in that they aren't part of a wider plan etc.
You could see it like that, but it's a far cry from the hill reps or series of intervals... I just don't see the point in doing many sub-standard efforts... I'd rather do one and for all, like it was a race... I think it's a more effective way to boost that zone 7. I just fail to see how I can get to 500 Watt in a race if I do hill reps at 320.
I should also rename this thread, as it's really a zone 7 effort, if one wants to get anywhere
Should you not be trying to get over 500 watts for a shorter than race distance and repeat that so many times in training. I always thought that you needed to include shorter faster intervals in your training so you can actually ride at speed you want to in your race.
In other wards how could you expect to ride at 25 mph in a TT if you never ridden this fast in training.
Yes, but you can't do 500W for a meaningful time and repeat it... I can do it for a minute something, but then I'm done. I could do 3 reps of 30 seconds, but I don't see how that is better. There is a small hill, it takes 90 seconds to get up it, I can't do half of it 3 times, it just seems stupid... you also need to work on the "get over it" side of things.... otherwise you end up like those folks on Zwift who always to the same reps and never improve.
I do lots of reps on the turbo. I'm the fastest I've ever been (on the road), because of this.

Somewhat agree with the other posters above.

I get the feeling you are a deliberately contrarian sort of person though.

Why is that something to bring home. Those skinny juniors were probably racing the whole race not trying to cherry pick. You come across rather desperate for some sort of cycling success.

14 years old? I forgive your ignorance... junior are a bit older than that... Juvenile is up to 16 and junior is 16-18.
Last Open 10 I did was won by a Junior in 19:08, he lined up 112 riders behind him.

A note of warning... this is supposed to be a thread for those who might be interested in doing a similar journey... support is welcome, a barrage of ignorant criticism isn't.
If this continues, I will simply ask the admin to lock it... I'm not here to be abused by a couple of internet warriors who haven't got anything better to do. If you want to prove something, pin a number on your back, otherwise read and be supportive, or read and shut up, if you can't be supportive.

Fwiw I'm with Ugo on this - you have to enjoy the training otherwise why are you doing it.

Yes there's an element of deferred gratification - you enjoy being fast - but to get better you have to actually train and if you just aren't enjoying it you'll stop.

Anyway I don't think Ugo is giving it the big I am so why the hostility - I mean where are some of you racing at the moment - I'll come and watch if you are that good.

He's now deleted almost all his posts from his own thread so maybe 'grown man' is stretching things a bit.

It's hurtful, when you share some of your personal life and what you get in return is ridicule.
So, I've removed the content because I don't think I want to share it with those people any longer. There are other platforms where people are more supportive and it's worth engaging with.

If you ask me, I think I am owed an apology by the two gentlemen above... that's what I would do if I hurt someone, but let's leave it like that... it's better not to get one, than to get a fake one

    Can't really disagree with Ugo.

Just because his training isn't as dedicated and intense as it could be, doesn't mean he can't enjoy the successes, however small, they bring.

After all, it's just a bit of fun, just like baiting strangers on the internet, I suppose.
