Looks a good buy! I’m fixing up an old Cervelo TT / Tri bike to see if I can get on with it on a turbo mainly

I’m thinking of building it up as a TT bike to use for the odd triathlons I take part in.

I’ve never ridden one before let alone built one so I’m going into uncharted waters here.

If I can’t get on with it or I can’t see the point in having it I’ll stick it on eBay and chalk it up as a learning experience.

    Picked it up earlier today.

It’s spotless and unmarked, even the decals are intact. The seller chucked in a set of carbon bullhorns and tri-bars.

Ok. I just stuck the bars on to see how it all felt.
When I picked up the frame on Friday night the stem was as you see it but it is the original stem. Admittedly looking at the photo it does look odd doesn’t it?

The seat is that height because err, I’m 6ft. 🤷‍♂️

and what size is the frame?

once ypu've fitted a proper stem its going to be a mental saddle to bar drop as well.

if rideable it'll look well proper especially slammed

After some digging about I found this photo. It’s the same year (2006) and it’s something that I’d like to recreate.

recreating it is easy, riding it is something else....

tiny and short, but hey give it a go and see what happens.

two hours to build it up - if it works, cool, if not it only cost you £60 so sell it again.

stuff like this is what makes building bikes fun, if we didn't do it we'd all be riding round on Ugo machines and where is the fun in that?

I’m new to building bikes because I’m really used to building cars so this is where I might need your expertise.

With bikes I want to do something a bit different if I can but also improve on the original at the same time.

If you know what a Q-car is you’ll know what I mean.

It's a TT bike and the pic with the TT bars looks fairly normal. Do your build around that set up and forget about the drops.

This is the Ridley TT bike when set up with drops - freakin' cool but unfortunately far too small for me.

Please excuse the 6,000 pairs of shoes - pic taken in the boot room.

I like the Ridley but once I’m down on bars that low I don’t think I could get back up!!

With my steed I’ve decided to go down the original (ish) route and I’m going to fit a Dura Ace 7800 groupset which I think will look cool and it’s not silly expensive either.

I’m not sure what wheels to use though.
