Help on tyres for hybrid bike

Hi,
I have a Canondale Quick 4 hybrid. https://99spokes.com/bikes/cannondale/2017/quick-4. And want to replace the tyres which are 700x30c Since I want to ride more on canal path to work and not on road I would like to put thicker / grippier tyres on. Can I put wider tyres on like 700c x 36 or wider ? i intend to stay with inner tubes if that helps the answer. Please point me someplace if this is obvious

Edit the rim is marked 622 x 16c. I guess I should find a chart someplace that maps this0
