Think it's soggy outside so CBA going for a ride.
WFH plus a trip out that someone reminded me about which will upset the flow of the day.

The more alarming news is youngest lad in yr 11 might be finishing school in April. Long time till college in September and he can't get a part time job as not 16 till July.

I was working a weekends at 14, although it was just cash in hand in a local shop.
Might ride him over until he's 16.

Oxo our eldest is the same age as your youngest and normally works in the local pub as a pot washer.

Work stuff then chill as the wife has invited her mother over for the weekend, may as well go for a lack of training long run so need to rest

Back to work after day off yesterday, zero motivation as workload is in a small trough right now, prefer the peaks personally as at least then the days don't drag.

Ride to the office should pick me up.

Newspapers? Pubs? What are these things?

Now forecasting a wet morning, so revise plan, do my shift at clients' later in day. Dagnabit, could have had an extra hour or 2 asleep. What's the chances of it actually staying dry this morning then raining in the afternoon? Evens I'll say.

Oh well, go refettle the graveller, summat not quite right with the driveset rebuild, quite a bit of click 'n' clank.

    Morning folks,
Woken up before the alarm by a skip lorry, too much light in this room. Waking up in a strange bed is odd, actually not that strange as it's my old bedroom. Although it has been redecorated a couple of times in the intervening years.

Had my first part time job at 14 working weekends at the Scared Heart presbytery. @veronese68 might know of this job. We’d (I was the youngest) get paid by a member of the Guinness family to strut around doing next to nothing, helping ourselves to anything in the clergy kitchen and playing snooker. I’ve no idea what the priests saw in us 🤔

My first paper round turned out to be my last. I couldn’t understand the map the newsagent had given me and panicked, putting newspapers through random front doors hoping for the best. I was asked not to return unsurprisingly.

My paper round was awesome, the paper shop was three streets away and finished at my parents house - mostly downhill, used to do it on a skateboard and if you timed it well, the milkman would tow me up to the shop

Mine wasn't that exciting but usually involved about 5 miles of cycling around up and down big hills carrying ridiculously heavy bags of stuff in all weathers. The boss always arranged rounds so you finished near to home even when you were covering someone else's.

Christmas was good for tips, but so was the clock changes because all the old dears would give you a fiver to reset the clock on their video recorder. If it was on Channel 5 that hour meant the difference between recording a trashy documentary and soft porn.

First job at 14/15 liading luggage on to aeroplanes for British Midland. Bloody hard but in 1988 £7 an hour wasn't to be laughed at tbh.

Then onto local sewage works - utterly utterly stunning secretary, £14 an hour to, literally, shovelshit. Best laugh job I ever had as it was so awful you couldn't moan, everyone just laughed all the time.

Some twunt from DPD decided to deliver a parcel his morning before the alarm went off and rang the bell till we answered the door as he had to take a pic of the package with the door open. Should have set the dogs on him.

Usual work bollox but not too many meetings.

Too right. There was an ad on neighbourhood Farcebork page this morning from an agency looking for 'Process Technicians' for a local outfit (for local people) offering £8.91 per hour. 33 years later 😳

WFW, loads to do and still sat here on the internet.

Ran last night and have set a goal to run every working day this week, didn't get off to a good start this morning as it was raining and my knees were aching. Will try again later.

Walked dog, then into town for a few errands. Had to go find a tuxedo to wear to a fancy black tie party coming up next month - old mate's 60th. Found a shop closing down and lucky they had something vaguely acceptable. May still look for something "decent" but unlikely to find what I want in a hurry.

Also ordered new wood heater for the refurbished living room when it's done, crikey they're expensive...

Dropped watches off at the repair shop.

Snooze in the afternoon sun when I got home, lovely.

First paid job I ever had was 3 weeks cleaning bricks on a demolition site in central Cov summer of 1990. All the bricks were worth a fortune as they were old. It was piecework and I think I earned average of £250 per week, cash. In 1990.

After that was a few jobs as "security" i.e. access tag checker at various agricultural shows.

I thought you had previously revamped the living room and fire WS?! Woss goin' on?

I had a paper round when I was at college and then within no time, I had all 3 rounds from that shop.
I got £25 a week, though I had to to Sundays - sometimes that was before a club run or after a night on the tiles or both. Either way, I was lodging and there was always (badly cooked) Sunday roast and almost always, Sunday afternoon was spent snoozing. There was cable TV and we had Eurosport with actual real live cycling.
Was roughly 20 drops on a Sunday but christ those Sunday papers were heavy.
At 14, I worked on a farm. I sometimes made the choice - turn left and cycle to work or turn right and cycle to school.
Did they really think I had that much 'flexi time'?

Just been on the phone to the doc again.

My knee that i injured the day after boxing day - the wound has opened up again, for the third time since it happened.

Have to go and have a blood test, even though they took a swab last time at the docs.

The deconstruction phase is complete. Waiting for new floor tiles to turn up and be laid before any further stuff can go ahead. Few weeks yet of nothing happening.

I did 18 months working for the shitshovellers about 7 years ago, but office based.
They had school leavers looking after 4/5 sewage works with no technical knowledge on minimum wage :disappointed:
We'd get £250k to design and install some shiny kit to sort out a problem which could be fixed by hiring someone to empty the bins more than twice a year :unamused:

My old company used to build / maintain sewage treatment plants in one of the divisions, so i've spent a bit of time at them and have stood in the bottom of one of the shit tanks (it was empty and partially cleaned, but still stank to high heaven).

We used to hire out radial conveyors to fill the round tanks with new filter material, whilst I've never stood in a wet one I've been next to quite a few.

A shi77ier job I have never had and I'm glad we sold off that arm of the business.
