Cycling trousers

Hi all
Can someone recommend a cycling trouser
With decent inserts .

I have a number of lycra bibs and shorts but feel to fat and old for them these days .

Ideally I want some light Combats with inserts
To knock about on trails with the family .

Iam also planning a short tour soon.

I have tried just using jeans or walking trousers but my backside knows about it after 10 miles or so.

I wondered if there was anything out there in softshell for weatherproofing
