Allez elite

Thinking of getting this bike I’ve put a few posts on here about carbon bikes I’ve bought and sent back to supplier after reading an article on internet about carbon vs aluminium is there much difference between the cube gtc I returned than the allez elite for someone of my level 47 and fat wishing I was 28 and thin

I've got an Allez in the shed. About 5 years old and not done 100miles I reckon.

    It's not mine, it's my bro's.

    Maybe I should sell it?

Yeah, they are well regarded. You might not get as high a spec as with some brands, but will be fine.

  • Cheers I’m thinking already 105 brakes not sure about the chainset I think it’s as good as105 but a tad lighter then perhaps some better wheels than the dt Swiss r460s
  • Basically what I’m trying to say is it worth upgrading

Just ride the thing for a while!

Or if you're already looking at upgrading stuff then maybe buying a frameset like a Bowman Palace then building it up with the components that you want is a better idea.

    Bowman Palace.

Just flipping gorgeous and brilliant reviews.

One of those with Force/Corus, some sweet wheels, stem and 'bars.....

Ridiculously cool, far nicer and probs not far off the cost of an Allez....

Have you sent back the second Cube, Peter?

I think you need to decide what you want from your bike, if I'm honest. Although not super-aggressive, the Allez is longer and lower than the Cube Attain when looking at the toptube and headtube lengths, but also the reach and stack dimensions.

  • Yes Ben I’ve sent it back I’d never be happy with it with the marks on frame and weird seat tube bit at the top as regards the allez elite I think for my level it will be fine apart from the axis brakes the rest of the spec doesn’t seem to bad later on I might change the wheels but that’s it

Ok, so its already a tad expensive now you want to change the brakes and wheels that will be more £s, so its starting to add up.

Are you really sure this is the route you want to cycle?

Planet X Pro Carbon (new version) could also be an option.....

Loved my Allez and that was a base model from 2010 (ended up on Ultegra and Ksyrium Elites with loads of carbon bits). It was very comfortable in the end. Had something that I really liked when I rode it.

Decent geometry and fairly well made frames. Not the lightest but not ridiculously heavy.
  • Conti gp5000s and front and rear 105 callipers ads up to £120 then that’s it for a while for upgrades so in total £1360 I’m happy with that it will suit all my needs and be plenty quick enough for my standard of riding

As mentioned above, keep a few quid spare for a saddle in case you don't get on with the one it comes with. That's the most important thing IMO when buying a new bike.

Also you'll need pedals, bottle cages...

Just looked at it on the concept store.

Tell me you got the gloss green one? Its really lovely in that colour.

Otherwise, in a while when you see everyone else on their black bikes you'll think to yourself "i wish i got the green one".

  • Cheers matt I know it’s not carbon but it does look good doesn’t it. Fits like a glove as well only gripe I’ve got is there is a bit of toe overlap only on certain pedal strokes and when going slow and doing big turns other than that I love it and it’s not going back 🤣

Looks tasty, rim brakes a plus for me., toe overlap is not unusual. Ali or carbon doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy it.
