Retro Cannondale FB marketplace find

Was looking for something to run as a cheap commuter and stumbled across this beauty on FB marketplace. New bar tape and gear cables and she’s running nicely.

New longer and lower stem on order. Originally was looking very undignified with a flipped stem and another 4cm of spacers.. couldn’t believe it had a full length carbon steerer as well.

New saddle on the shopping list. Any more suggestions?

    That has oooodles of potential.

Chinarello phat as deep rims, full black Tiagra, sorted.

It'll be mega. Black everything will make the frame pop and be lush and you'll keep it for decades therefore offsetting costs.

Its an option but a rubbish one.

Tbh, Tiagra or Rival is the perfect price point for that .

MF realises the underlying humour, wit and good feeling associated with your previous post and appreciates the same - props.

Good calls re your g/s choices - you could whack full 105 on there for about £250 off an internet site and it would rock.

SRAM would keep the Americana theme going though

Its still got potential to be a blindin' bit of retro kit.

  • Yeah considered a recent group set as never have been a fan of those wires out the shifters. Will see what I can pick up. Feels wrong having a triple chainset as well. Tiagra will be fine for what it’s being used for.

I’ve earmarked some china special 50mm’s because agreed they’ll just look good.

Thinking white saddle, h8r’s will go wild with black tape but with the white decals I think it’ll go nicely.

You don't need deep rims on a commuter.

It would also look silly imo.

Normally MF would agree with you but sorry - on this matter you are are so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so wrong.

Of course you do. You always need deep rims. Deep rims are the way forward (literally).

Not to use deep rims at every opportunity marks you out as boring as a total clubbie.

Phat rims on the retro whip.

except of course total clubbies love deeprims because theyre going as fast as pro racers these days. in fact, if theyd got into cycling earlier its a sure bet they would have been pro and probably won classics.

    Go shallow Go rim brakes

negatron my learned friend - clubbies love shallows and will find every opportunity to harp on about them. Them and mudguards so you can look like a total clubbie.

phat and, as you exactly say, rim brakes.

  • MF I agree the deeper the better in this case. It might only be 4 miles each way but it’s always a race right?!

how phat can you go on that though 23 is retro phat like twiggy after christmas .

I agree deep rims in winter, its bad enough riding in all that sh it without flagellating yourself with mudguards and shallow rims.

dont be a snowflake. dont be a clubbie
  • Deep rims for the commute is critical. They're only cheap Chinese ones and if you buy the blue wiggle pads the rims will outlive you. Hubs maybe not though.

    All black groupset.

White bars and saddle. Deda carbon white is very easy to keep clean but has little grip.

Upset clubbies and really make MF cry by wrapping one side white and one side black

So close but not white saddle and tape as it’s frickin’ horrendous. Black everything otherwise it’ll look like a mismatched shonker.

Tbh, hubs will be cool as well on the Chinarellos. Deep rims are excellent at annoying clubbies - it’s funny when they go all mudguard and awful shallows whilst wearing full winter arctic kit at 10 degrees.

Do it do it do it do it do it do it do it do it.
