Endurance bike recommendations.

Hi. I am looking at purchasing a new bike. Looking for something with a slightly relaxed geometry for longer rides. But still want it to be quite light/ quick. I know there is no such thing that covers all but hopefully someone can give me some ideas on a reasonable compromise.

I have been looking at the Orbea Orca team with the OMR frame which claims to be a little more compliant. Any help appreciated. Particularly any experience of the Orca. Thanks.

PS budget is upto £4K.

Should be a new Synapse released this year.

What makes you think that? They redesigned it in 2018.

If you're right, I do hope they keep a similar shape and don't drop the seat stays, like every other redesigned bike.

It's due an update. No guarantee it will be this year of course.

Given that they usually drop seatstays to increase comfort and that every other Cannondale now has them, it's almost a little strange that their endurance bike is the only one without them!

I expect Cannondale to rectify this once the new Synapse is released.

What about an Argon 18 Krypton? Glowing reviews for the Pro version:

The stack is adjustable by up to 30mm:

I guess the GF version frameset will be around £2300 when it becomes available again so a build at less than £4000 may be a squeeze.
  • Thanks for the replies. Some other options to consider and look at.
  • Does anyone’s know of an argon stockist in the Midlands? Also still interested in any views on the Orbea Orca OMR frame. Any help welcomed. Thanks.

Just plug your location into this web page. It's a global one so make sure you include UK to avoid any confusion

The Synapse was tweaked then - the last major redesign was for the 2014 model. So, like the Canyon Endurace, it’s due a major overhaul.

I Have also been looking at the Orbea but availability is an issue, as with all bikes, also looking at the DOLAN Tuono Disc for fast group rides.

If you’re after comfort how about a Specialized Roubaix ? Smoother is faster. Although it doesn’t have mudguard mounts but you can get decent mudguards that attach without a mount
    Specialized Roubaix Pro Expert 2020
Boardman HT Pro Ltd Ed MTB
Boardman Pro Carbon Road Bike (Turbo Trainer)
    Charge Mixer
  • Can recommend Bianchi Infinito CV. Pretty much summed up by your opening comments... fast, light and slightly relaxed. Also very comfortable, but still enough road feel to remain “connected”.

I ride an Orca, albeit from 2015, and have done many 100 mile plus rides on it no problem.

I would strongly recommend you get on one prior to purchase to guage the size.

I was comfortable for many years on a 56 Allez but have had to tweak the 55 Orca to make it right. (Albeit am getting on a bit now and maybe not as supple as I once was)

Been a great bike, no issues apart from wear and tear (chains / cassettes etc).
