Colnago

First TdF win for Colnago bikes... it took a while and comes just 4 months after Ernesto sold the company.
Would be interesting to look back at which historic manufacturers have yet to win the Tour... anyone?

    Thought we'd covered this yesterday.
    Merckx for starters.

Riis was on a painted/"rebadged" Pegoretti (not a Pinarello) as far as I'm aware.

There was once a hidden acceptance that the top riders could ride the bike of their choice as long as it was painted correctly. Pegoretti was one of those.

Helped by steel bikes looking fairly similar with the right paint.

I'm fairly sure I read about Zulle riding a Litespeed painted as a Peugeot once upon a time.

Mate, there's a thread on Carlton Kirby that's a gazillion pages and several centuries long.

  • Merckx used frames built by Ernesto Colnago, when he was with the Molteni team, so I guess this year’s win wasn’t strictly speaking the first, for a Colnago.

If only this hadn’t been mentioned 20 posts above, it might have been interesting.
