I didn't appreciate your subtle plan was to make socialist policies more palatable to the conservative party voter. Hats off to you.

Might be stating the obvious, but Corbyn hasn't been Labour leader for some time now.

True, but he deserves some credit as he was the inspiration for this thread and he did keep Labour out of power for several years. His legacy might mean that carries on for several more.

    Credit where credit is due.

Jews feeling driven out of a mainstream UK political party? Allowing the Conservative party to be taken over by a journalist and his pet blogger? No it f***ing does not. There is no credit to be had there.

Read what I wrote above: "...he deserves some credit as he was the inspiration for this thread and he did keep Labour out of power for several years."

The whole point of this thread in case you'd forgotten :)

Yes. I guess it comes down to whether you use western as interchangeable with developed then.

Blimey, the Corbyn Clan doesn't give up easily, trying to make sure that the 'red line' under the Antisemitism affair is blurred. I wouldn't be surprised if individuals now get sued...

Might be behind a paywall, but this article suggests that Starmer should remove the whip from Corbyn over the anti-semitism issue:

Can't read beyond the first couple of sentences but he should. The reaction to the settlement from the Corbynistas just shows that they are more interested in misplaced hero worship than actually dealing with antisemitism, let alone the wider issues that Labour aspires to address.

    Absolutely.

While it would be no doubt amusing watching the handbag swinging, it would be a good way for Starmer to stamp his authority on the party. Albeit a tad risky, but then again that's not our problem.

Steady on - if you encourage Starmer to do sensible things, he might listen to you, and help make Labour electable - and after all the work you've done!!

It's also a good route to civil war in the Labour Party. Don't want him to play it too safe...

Tee hee. New Old Labour now faced with a choice between potential bankruptcy and expelling Corbyn from the party.
( OK, it's in the DM but its quite amusing).

Just in case anyone has forgotten who the official opposition actually are these days, here's a pretty good article on the main problem facing Keir Starmer:

    https://spectator.co.uk/article/keir-starmer-s-big-problem-is-his-party

The answer is, it's his party. Jezza's legacy lives on

  • The calibre of current politicians on all sides is absolutely woeful.

Local Labour Parties are still in the throes of dilusional far left politics and the Tory cabinet seems to stand for absolutely nothing other then their own personal power grab.

As a country we need a strong opposition and although Starmer is doing well he's fighting with his hands tied, like you said, because the rest of the party is bereft of any talent.

All this while Johnson surrounds himself with talentless pyschophants

I don't think Johnson could forget yesterday.

To take a leaf out of your book - looking on the bright side, they are in a better place than when that literal loser Corbyn was 'Leader' of the Opposition.

And any party that doesn't have diversity of opinion is likely to come a cropper, I'd suggest: ideas need to be tested, and if you have a party that doesn't have 'critical supporters' will become complacent and intellectually lazy.

Having said that, I'd be surprised if the more extreme left of the Labour Party doesn't try to keep its influence: how Starmer deals with that over time will be interesting to watch.

Pity they don't try their tube train stunt in East London again so they can get another taste of public opinion :)

The correct thread for these extremists as they are not eco-hippies but extreme lefties.

Did you find it surprising that the usual outraged lefties on here did not comment on those trying to shut down free speech?

Daft and misjudged protest, but I think equating making the few who still buy a physical copy wait a few hours for their paper, with a meaningful attack on a free press is a teeny bit hysterical.

Disappointing that this got more coverage than the bunch of neo-nazis and white nationalists who closed the port of Dover, but I guess the former was on the journos' doorstep.

There were two daft protests this weekend didn't get attention on here. All it means is there's a bike race on.
