Terpstra had a nasty accident - he'll be in hospital for a while but at least it's not life threatening. Very unlucky

https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/terpstra-helicoptered-to-hospital-after-training-crash/

The monuments are shortened, to account for a tough work load in the compressed season:

https://www.velonews.com/news/specialists-wrangle-over-shortened-classics/

And Sagan won't be doing the classics as he wants to honour his commitment to riding the Giro

None of that sounds good. Far rather see Sagan in the classics than the Giro

It'll be interesting to see how teams split riders out and whether they throw weight to the one dayers or they have to be the cannon fodder in GT's. Could be a good year to bag a monument for some?

Or for quick step to get 8 of the top 10 in a monument. 7 QS riders in the 9 man break and no one will chase because some nobody in a QS Jersey is sitting on.

I think there's going to be a lot of,

MAKE RACING MORE UNPREDICTABLE...no, not like that...

    type posts/articles/podcasts this autumn.

I'm looking forward to it personally. No one is going to know how to play this.

Not sure a shortened monument can qualify as a monument.
Still, the prospect of racing is a lot better than no prospect at all. ;)

Cunego's condition doesn't sound good either: in hospital with a brain infection.

[tongue in cheek] I think the precedent being set with all these e-races is that races will be shorter. Next it will be laps of the velodrome for Paris Roubaix and Milan San Remo will just be a Poggio hill climb [tongue removed from cheek]

And they'll finally officially allow the use of motors for short periods (but only if you rolled the correct number when going under a banner).

Just out of interest - is it possible to trace back to the post that actually broke the forum?

Something I saw that was a little interesting was the Spanish sports newspaper Marca picking their top 100 sportsmen (and it's just men) of the 21st century.

A lot of cyclists, probably too many. And it was interesting how a foreign paper ranks British sportsmen, of which there are ten (including Northern Ireland).

I forgot to mention Mitchelton’s new sponsor, which all seems a bit murky to me but I haven’t paid close attention.

A Spanish paper rating Froome higher than Contador.
Yet more fuel for his whiny fans to whine about.

Yeah that's fair if you are interested in track stuff and that list seems to be quality of the sport agnostic.

Looks like they'll stay MS and have some form of commitment going forward.

    The MS deal is off.

    https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/mitchelton-scotts-deal-with-new-sponsor-is-off-after-week-of-confusion-458170

    Moving this:

"After careful consideration, GreenEDGE Cycling has today advised Mr. Francisco Huertas, owner of Manuela Fundación, that it will not proceed with the Head of Terms established on June 5, 2020.

“We felt a strong initial connection with Mr Francisco Huertas, the Manuela Fundación and their noble aims,” team founder and principal Gerry Ryan explained.

“However, as the negotiations have evolved after the initial announcement on Friday, we have concluded that the relationship will not proceed. We wish Mr. Francisco Huertas and the Manuela Fundación all of the best for the future."

Moving forward, the GreenEDGE Cycling men’s and women’s teams will return to racing next month under the existing Mitchelton-SCOTT banner, with a fully supported financial and technical structure provided by Ryan.

“The COVID-19 global crisis has thrown up many new challenges, but our primary focus remains on our world-class athletes and support staff,” Mr Ryan assured.

“This will include a return to full wages for all riders and staff once WorldTour racing commences in August, and a commitment to the year 2021 as we search for a suitable sponsorship.

“We believe in this team, and the people and culture that have made it so successful these past eight years. Our riders have been inspiring in their commitment and motivation in what has been an uncertain season, and our staff loyal and determined to provide the best service possible in what will be a busy and challenging end to the year. We can’t wait to get back on the road and start winning more races.”

MSR pretty much is just the Poggio hill climb tbf.

Might as well chuck it on this thread: Jumbo are moving to Cervelo bikes next year.

But didn't Cav have his best recent season on the Cervelo S5 (the season he won 4 stages of the TdF against Kittel and Greipel)?

Ja... I'm a bit grumpy about this.
