Fork Crown Race - or not needed

I have a specialised Tarmac SL4 2014 that needs a new bottom bearing. Does the carbon fork on this bike have crown race or is it the left over ring of the bearing that I have just removed

It probably does have a crown race, I should be pressed tight onto the bottom of the steerer tube just above the crown so it may look like it's a moulded part of the fork.
The crown race is usually steel, so get a magnet out to check.

If you are just replacing the bearings, you don't need a new crown race unless it's badly worn.

If the crown race came off when you removed the bearing, it needs reinstalling tight on the steerer. A ring of tape around the steerer is usually enough to make it tight again.

It's not uncommon these days for carbon (road) forks to not have a separate crown race fitted - it's moulded into the fork and the bearing simply sits on that instead. I've had a few like that. Not sure about your specific model Spesh, but would not be a surprise if you just put new bearings in and all good.

The leftover bit from the old bearing definitely won't be it though (if I've understood what you mean).

    Pictures would help!
