Day 1 of engine extraction. Had to first get it going.
(I doubt i'll be doing this marathon with cocktails).
All ancillaries on the upper half + radiator are off.

4 weeks eye reckons...

    Pics will happen but with the engine in bits and wires all over the shot, won't make for anything aesthetic.
    I suppose that could make for before and after shots.

    I have no idea, but the plate is nailed to a beam above your porch. I'm guessing whatever it was on didn't survive.
    I say nailed, it could be screwed up there for all I know.

    Oh yeah, oops³. I wondered why it rang a bell.

    That was a VW Beetle sold for pittance before they went silly.

    Day 3.

    Didn't get too much done today, though borrowed a hoist*



    ...made up a trolley to place the engine on, which should be out tomorrow, i've only the cross member to do (sort of):



    Extension for the breaker bar for pesky, stubborn nuts and bolts:



    Not much to do before the old lump comes out:



    Decided that the clutch slave cylinder was looking a bit Ropey, so ordered a new one.
    Steering rod ends gave me jip so I sorted them with the angle grinder and they're on order too.

    *Some social distancing rules may have been compromised in the making of this post 'cos the damn thing is heavy.

    Works now. Good way to kills a few weeks of naff all to do. Main car related challenge for me is keeping enough juice in the batteries of our cars.

    Yeah, i'm almost at the point of disconnecting the battery in Porker#2 and just using the van.

    Spent the last (filthy*) two days refurbishing and cleaning.

    *Not as filthy as Stevo's imagination (I bet).

    The cross member and Bell housing (alu*) - copious quantities of petrol and a stiff brush, followed and interspersed with a copper plated brass wire wheel on a dizzy (steel is too harsh), then Autosol chrome polish + wire wheel, then detergent, then back to wire wheels to finish (after you cleaned them!)



    The rest, wire wheels, rust preventer, paint.

    The steering rack has some way to go. Have to replace O rings, seals, paint it, new SS bolts...
