    Don't do it, they're like riding on hosepipes. Awful tyres.

    My preferred choice of tyre is Conti GP5000s or GP4000s.
    More expensive, but light years better. I've spent the winter on GP5000s which has been probably 2500 kms with no problems, and those tyres went on in mid summer. Rear now needing replacing after 6-7,000 kms.

    Really!     I've never ridden on hosepipes, how would you best describe that then?
    I think there a really good tyre BTW they seem to just roll and roll...

    They feel dead, no suppleness, poor grip, heavy and poor rolling resistance.

    Depends what you want - Gatorskins aren't a race or even a fast training tyre imo but they last ages and reaiat punctures pretty well. I'd prefer something like a Michelin Pro4 Endurance (if they still do them) if I wanted puncture protection but mybe if I was mixing in unpaved tracks etc a Gatorskin would be ok.

    Well you stick to them then, but you'll never find out what a decent tyre feels like in comparison!

    Graham Obree also believes that 9 speed is all you need, plenty of us would beg to differ.

    In my own experience Gatorskins are horrible, no grip, especially on those cold, wet mornings. I've come a cropper a couple of times on roundabouts due to them, it's never happened to me on any other tyre.

    There's a reason they're known as Skaterskins.
