Jesus. Confirmed as a heart attack now.

He always looked so bloody fit even after retirement. RIP.

Ah no. Seemed like the human face of Ineos, and despite his amazing record as a DS there was so much more to come. Feel so sorry for his family.

    Wow.
    Absolutely shocked and stunned.
He always had so much time for reporters and as LR says: the human face of Sky/Ineos.

What a horrible shock reading this was. Had to double-check as he did look like a fit guy and he’s only 40. RIP Nico

    Unbelievable, so very very young.
I don't find many things shocking these days, but this has knocked me sideways.

    His poor family.

    Really sad news.

I just read on the BBC that he retired early due to an irregular heartbeat being diagnosed, so wonder if that is a factor in his tragic death.

    Absolutely sickening news. So sad.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

It's easy to overlook his achievements as a DS. Six Tour wins with three different riders. Eight GT wins in total. He stands alongside Cyrille Guimard (who also had to stop too early)

And he could see the big picture in those races. At the 2018 Giro he was derided for not naming the leader Yates as one of the challengers at the second rest day. But he knew.

Blimey, not one you would have thought of. The older guys like Bruyneel, LeFevre maybe.

That was always the thing for me that stood out. I remember how he just didn't have him in the list of people to be worried about and was absolutely certain. And was absolutely right.

Terrible loss. Seemed like a really good guy who was living his dream. And certainly should go down as one of the great DS's.

Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.
