Chain skipping on cassette

I recently put a new 8 speed compatible KMC chain onto my shimano 8 speed cassette on my winter commute. I did this as the chain checker told me that the old one had stretched. Prior to replacing the chain I had zero chain/indexing/cassette problems.
I installed the chain (which is not a directional chain) using a quick link. Im as happy as I can be that I sized it correctly and the chain runs through the rear mech without skipping, so no tight/stiff links. When I put the bike onto the stand to check the indexing, it appears fine.
The problem I have is on cogs 3, 4 and 5, usually when applying a little power the chain feels as if its jumping on the rear cassette. I don't think it jumps up or down a cog/gear. Any ideas as to cause? Id say the rear cassette is no older than 12 months.

    Most likely that the cassette is too worn. I bet you use the cogs mentioned the most and they are therefore the most worn which is why the issue occurs on those cogs.

    ^^^ This. You've used your old chain for too long and worn the cassette. Replace cassette too. Note for next time - check chain for wear and replace when it's at 'advisory' - you'll get three or four chain's worth out of a cassette that way

    do it quick or else you will wear out your new chain quicker too

    New cassette went on this morning, first ride is a commute tomorrow morn. I'll post back with the results.
