tuesday and the temperature gradient has reversed

'ning

i come from a land of pineapple,
where the nile flows and hippos thunder,
you better run, you better take cover

uganda, excellent, really lovely people, vast pineapple reserves, stalking wild rhinos in the bush is excellent, as was plush tenting amongst the hippos, even persuaded mrs s to ascend the path next to murchison falls

locals try to figure out who ate all the pineapples

much bubbly and a nice snooze, currently brekkie time on board, with pineapple

    Morning

Dodged the rain this morning. New hotdesking policy seems to be working well in the office - people have just dumped all their crap onto a different desk :/

Someone's attempted to restart that thread over in Crudcatcher. I wonder how long it will last.

A day of bludge. Work up middle of the night (again) with *seriously* bad back pain, FKW, and has taken most of the day for it to subside.

Ran into new future neighbours, who owned the house that burned down a few months ago. They were here with "consultants" surveying the block to decide what/where to rebuild. Was a little dismayed to find she is in "media production", and he appears to specialise in bad sunglasses and inappropriate footwear. Was hoping for a teensy bit more class. Hmmm. I have concerns their choice of architect may suffer as a result.

Morning, dank here waiting for the weather to close in again. walked in as I don't fancy fighting the inevitable headwinds. Usual office day then mess about with some plans for bit later at home.

WS, you able to object if they submit plans for something hideous?

We can, but reality is that our objections would likely be ignored since they are far enough away from us to not matter really, other than driving past it on our way in...

The good news is there's a wall of 60' high pine trees between us and them, and about 300 metres of DMZ. :-)

Is the DMZ mined to keep the riff raff away?

I periodically mow it to remove any possible cover for invaders. Theres also a (shabby) barbed wire fence, and then another fence closer up... I think we're safe..

Mines would be a nuisance, all they'd do is go off every 5 minutes with all the damned critters out there. Rabbits, possums, wallabies, potoroos, snakes..

If the worst comes to the worst, just burn it down again and blame it on global warming/bush fires.

Been stuck in meetings most of the day so glad to be released to eat some food as pedalling makes me very hungry. Keeping an eye on the weather as it looks like tanking rain and a 45mph headwind around home time.

Good point. Should we send a search party? Cant blame anyone if they've disappeared, Lord Lucan style.

    Afternoon folks,
Another busy day to say the least. Had to come in early as a mate/colleague got taken into hospital yesterday so I needed to meet a bloke coming in to see him. Now dealing with the usual sh1t as expected. The throwing under a bus of yesterday is still rumbling on with lashing out as expected. Apparently delays caused by his incompetence are my fault, I should fix all of his errors as my knowledge is better. The fact that I've been saying the delays would happen and it's all panned out exactly as predicted is irrelevant. But then this is the bloke that was waving around a letter announcing a price rise with possible further rises in case of going to WTO terms was a letter saying no price rise even if no deal. When I pointed out it said the opposite of his claim the response was "well that's not the way I read it". You really can't fix that level of stupid, at least not without committing a serious crime.
Unfortunately I have to wait for the bosses to deal with it, I suspect that won't happen and I'll just keep shovelling.
Good luck Spinner, a friend has just been told her neighbours have just applied for planning permission to go from a single storey building to two storey, but it's only a metre from their house and will block light into their garden.

You know if we @ mention him he gets emails, mind you I think he said he couldn't recall what email address he used or similar so it may fall on deaf ears so to speak.

An fair point forgot you have a lot more wildlife than we get in blighty, that said I get deer wandering round over the back fence.

Maybe a bird scare using a D30 122mm shell, would "scare" most things.

Actually has anyone tried PM'ing him. He's been away longer than his usual tour of duty so I reckon he dropped out of BR when the forum changed to the current POS.

Yeah I think that's happened, @Matthewfalle was on for a bit after they changed.
If @Matthewfalle can't access his email any more there's no point @ tagging him or sending @Matthewfalle a pm either, but @Matthewfalle might've updated it to log in again.

Either that or he's locked in a car park.

They did say it may be up to a couple years before they get it all done, what with council approvals and hassles with insurers to sort first. Seems now the block is deemed high risk for fires, so the building regulations are different. I think they were looking at ways to reduce that rating first, otherwise the construction costs treble.

The upside is they have a big ugly shed which may have to go altogether. Would count that as a win!

Wasn't the fire risk due to the occupants?

:) Yep, but now it's burned down the insurers have said that any *new* buildings must comply with relevant current fire ratings. Their block of land has (bizarrely) now been categorised as highest risk for a new construction because there are trees (who knew!) relatively close to the house site. Seems an odd assessment given the prevailing weather and other topography but who knows. Wished them good luck with that as those trees are actually on crown reserve land, so getting them removed or trimmed will be a bureaucratic nightmare. In fact, there'd be strong resistance to that from other locals (us included) since that reserve is one of the features of the bay we're on.

Due to the fire risk WS, do you piddle on your house regularly?

    Frikkin windy here.
    Frikkin wet too.
Fed up of being frikkin soggy. Next week bears frost and sun. Bring it on.

Yes, but not to minimise the fire risk. It's good for the garden. :-)

If piddling on the garden was good for it, our lawn should win awards since we got 2 dogs. Unfortunately it looks cack.

Entirely different, dog pee is better than weedkiller. But human’s is definitely good for citrus trees if nothing else.

Except @TLW1 which may be a bit, er, toxic... 🤪
