Strapping bike pump to bike without it rattling

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a cheap way to attach a small pump to the frame of my bike. I was wondering if anyone had a cheap solution without needing a mount. Maybe some sort of straps that I can tighten up like a belt so it doesn't rattle.

A lot of small pumps come with a bracket that fixes to your bottle cage bolts.

Opps didn’t see the bit about not wanting a mount. Under the saddle strapped with toe straps, probably be more secure if you wrap it up in something.

Can you not stick it in a back pocket?

If you don't use the dedicated mount and strap a pump to your frame it will rub and scratch the paint. Just use the f'ing mount ;)

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Not really. I've got a Topeak Microrocket pump. It's about 15cm long, so I could put it in my jacket pocket, but it might fall out.
I'm thinking of attaching it to the bike frame so I don't need to worry about forgetting it, loosing it or not having a jacket pocket to keep it in. Plus it will be more comfortable. Do you think Velcro straps might work?
  • I use cable ties for mine. I think you can get belt type styles of cable ties

Why must you not use a mount? As above, any kind of strap will rub the paint unless you use some kind of protection.

Here's how I carry pumps on my bikes:

    - MTB: I used to use the bottle-cage mount but it got so muddy it was useless, so now it goes in my hydration backpack. I also carry a CO2 inflator in a saddle bag
    - road bike(s): I have a small pump in a water-bottle tool kit, which takes up one of the bottle cages. I also have CO2 in there. I swap the tool kit from bike-to-bike as needed
    - gravel bike: the pump goes in my jersey pocket, and has yet to fall out despite being a reasonable size.

How long is your seatpost - room on there? You could look at those Velcro cable tidy straps. But as I said, paint rubbing.

the micro rocket comes with a really good mount ( 5 seconds to attach/remove once setup. ), but it is also small enough to fit inside some water bottles and definitely fits in a vittoria zip up tool bottle.

I usually put the microrocket in my tiny saddle bag. I tried storing it in the drop behind the bar end plug but it's not quite that small :D

I've strapped a fatter pump to the top tube, on the top using some rubber hair bobbles I pinched off the mrs: put one around the pump, pull it around the frame them put the end back over the pump. Repeat for the other end.
The rubber under the pump gives a little standoff so it doesn't scratch your frame. You have to pull the rubber things tight to get them all the way round.

Why can't you use bottle cage bolt holes and use the proper thing?

I was given it without the bracket, which is a shame. I didn't realise they were sold with the holder until now. How annoying! I was thinking about using some sort of cable ties like these: https://www.accu.co.uk/en/belt-cable-ties/467410-HCABT-160-9-PE because I've seen some bad reviews of the velcro straps.
I might try elastic bands first though, at least then I won't be able to forget the pump.

or £14.00 from Wiggle which is much more expensive but it does come with a free pump and usually Haribo.

Agree with the above. The Topeak rocket is perfect for this, and cheap enough for me to have one on each bike I ride
