Whinges about the new forum

I'll start with the fact that it may be designed to look better on mobile, but when I log in (I hope it gets easier with practice, certainly looking very clunky so far) and go to recent "discussions", I can only see about 6 or 7 threads.

On a large 1080p monitor with Chrome font set to small.

By all means optimise mobile site for mobiles, but this is a big retrogade step for anyone with a screen bigger than 5".

Oh and blow me down! We've replaced nice simple BBcode with actual HTML. Errr, great.

It's going to take some getting used to, really should have had a like button or thumbs up/down facility for comments

    Hi bompington,

Thanks for your feedback. Can you post a screengrab of the 'recent discussion' view as you see it? You should be able to see all recent threads. Here's how it looks for me... (and lots more threads if I were to scroll down)

    Thanks,
    George

Because everyone is essentially viewing the new forum for the first time, you will be taken to the beginning of each thread when you initially click on it. If you were then to view the thread again, it will take you to your last viewed post.

We have the option to enable a number of reactions and will review this.

Is there no button to mark all forum threads as "read" any more? Couldn't see on on the individual forums / sub forums or in my account etc.

  • It's worth me jumping in at this point to say that, considering the size of the BikeRadar forum and the amount of data migrated, there will inevitably be some bugs that we need to iron out. Please bear with us while we work through these.

We also have a range of options to customise the forum experience. We will continue to keep track of your feedback and requests, but it may take a little time to respond to your queries. Thanks again for your patiences.

I'm glad there's a nice variety of ads merged in between the thread listings.

If you click on a thread from within a forum category, it will start from the beginning of a thread.

If you click on a thread from 'Recent discussions', it will take you to the most recent post you haven't read.
I don't think that's how people use or want to use the site. I think people stick to certain boards.

Am I missing something or is there no way to look at new posts in a particular section?e.g. new road posts. 'recent discussions' is site wide and will be pointless to most as they'll only be interested in a small proportion of the site. Currently as far as I can tell to look at new road posts requires me to go into all the sub-forums.

Agree on the layout too. 1440 monitor and I can see less than half of the threads I used to at once and looking at this thread now I can't even see all of the 2 posts above wit h each taking up half a screen.
  • Is there a button to edit/delete a post? I couldn't see one...

You can edit by clicking on the cog in the top-right corner of your post, but there's no option to delete.

This may get dealt with in the customisable options thank but can we log in to the categories page rather than new posts? As said above I think of us are way to insular to want to see new posts from areas we rarely venture in to...

    We'll look into this.

If, for example, you were to click on the 'Road cycling forum' and it were then to display the 5 most recent posts from each road cycling sub-forum, would that be what you're after?
  • If I click on Road Cycling, then Recent discussions, I get included in the list ones from MTB as well.

No offence to the MTB community but I'm not interested and I'm sure vv.

'Recent discussions' will always show you the latest posts from the entire forum.

However, we'll look into this to see whether there's a solution to view latest posts most relevant to you.
  • The old forum landing page showed all the categories and then the sub-sub forums. So from forum.bikeradar.com I could click directly on road buying advice or workshop. Now I need to click road first, then buying advice or workshop etc.

Also in the article on the website you say there is Reduced scrolling and blank space but that's not true at all on desktop, there is a lot more white space visible to the sides now and fewer posts on screen at any time.

How can I now view the posts i was involved in? I don't want to go through every post to see if there's new activity on those threads. I used this as my default page previously

Thanks, I never had any idea what subcategory within Road any of the threads were previously.

Any way to go back to the view I used to have by default? (topics I've contributed to, with the most recent topic I posted on at the top)

Doh! Just seen @tashman has requested the same thing :)

  • You can also bookmark discussions by clicking the star at the top a thread or next to the thread title on a board. This will give you easy access to key discussions from the 'My bookmarks' link in the top-right corner. You can also see threads you've started by clicking the 'My discussions' link below this.
  • Well this looks really terrible- old site was much better.
    This is a mess.
    Logging out.
  • OMG it is really really bad, have been using Bikeradar since 2006, on my imac desktop it looks awful and those big white spaces will no doubt be filled with invasive crappy adverts. The end.
