YT Jeffsy CF Pro Race 29, with a sprinking of Hope and Oneup parts!

I had my Vitus Escarpe 275 VR for nearly 1.5 years - thread here https://forum.bikeradar.com/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=13091668, but for a while now I've been eyeing up it's replacement...

I rode a YT Jeffsy 29 CF Pro Race in size XXL earlier this year at the YT rolling Circus demo day at FoD, and that sealed the deal.

So, this was in my back garden just over a week ago

And after a quick build up, I had this!

Not long after that, it looked like this...

I applied Invisiframe to the frame (the forks will be getting done tomorrow)

Then put all this on ebay

And then awaited the delvery of lots and lots of lovely bits.

I got the last bits I needed yesterday and built the bike up today.

So far I've set up the suspension sag (roughly), and aligned and bedded in the brakes - the Hope V4's are seriously powerful, with loads of control.

Tomorrows jobs will be applying invisframe to the forks, I was going to put some red and grey Fox 36 stickers on but I don't think it needs it. Then, if the rain ever stops I'll give it a shakedown ride early this week!

Thanks! Been out a couple times locally as I've got no car at the moment, need to take to some proper trails to get the suspension set up properly but it's feeling great already.

That looks great, absolutely great.

Keep your eye on the e13 hubs. I have had a very unhappy experience with them. The service technician at the UK agent said he had never had to replace one hub before, let alone three! If that is true, then it must have been a rogue. The hub was very poorly sealed and rusted to failure!! This was after 128m, then again after another 711m, and then again after another 786m!! All of this was fixed under e13's five year warranty, with varying degrees of replacement. The second one was a new hub, the third was a complete new hub of the latest seal design and all the bearings. I can't fault e13's service, but the quality of the design or manufacture was evidently poor. Each time I was without the rear wheel for almost two weeks. Fortunately I had a second bike (A Capra as it turns out!)

I was open about this to the guy that bought the bike from me, the third failure was on his test ride! But he gave up on the wheels several months later.

I'm that guy! I'm now running a set of WTB KOM's on Hope Pro 4 Hubs and they are lovely.

Nothing against the e13's, it's just the hubs seem to struggle with our dirty/gritty trails and they are hard on bearings as well (they start to run a bit rough). Having said that, I did an Evans Ride It! event in the Peaks last year and broke a spoke on the first descent. Was really worried what would happen next. The wheels didn't miss a beat and got me round the other 20 odd miles and suicidal rock gardens. The rims are acutally very good, light, strong and responsive; it just seems that the hubs (and spokes) were an issue. I think they are better designed now but as Steve says, just keep an eye on them.

I still have mine as a spare set and might one day get them laced to some different hubs. Seems a shame not to use them as they are fundamentally very good.

Thanks for the headsup - I've done 135 miles so far on it and *touches wood* not had any issues, every single one of those rides has been in the wet/mud too.

How simple was replacing the cassette with a SRAM cassette on the E Thirteen hubs? Straight swap? Ive got the Capra Pro Race from 2018 and wouldn't mind doing the same and some point.

It's a straight swap, the only tricky thing is removing the E13 cassette as you need 2 chain whips - but if you remove it with the wheel on the bike and the chain still on you can use that as one of the chainwhips.

Update on the bike - I've changed the E13 BB as it was already starting to feel a bit grindy and loose - swapped it with a Cane Creek Hellbender Neo BB with the fancy solid oil bearings. Have swapped the saddle too, to a Fabric Radius Team.

Took it to the peak district last weekend and it dealt with the chunk with ease, rolled over massive rocks and slabs no issues. I have a few battlescars on the rims, and some scratches on the invisiframe from rock strikes but it's been perfect.

I also broke the fidlock mount on the bottle after an off so in its place I have mounted a 76 projects little piggy and drybag, which holds a spare quicklink, tube, tyre puncture strips and tool, and a CO2 canister and head.

Yes, I was missing the o-ring from the DPX2 - have replaced this when I did an aircan service as it was getting a little weepy, dead easy job.
