So , the bike stable is
Best bike Look 566
middle bike Felt Z5
Winter bike Planet x London road
I am planning my winter riding , averaging 150-170 miles a week commuting and weekend rides.
The London Road is my weekday commuter and wet Sunday ride with the Felt on duty on dry days.
The thing is over the years the LR has taken a beating and requires new.
Bottom bracket
Headset
Crankest.
brake/ gear cabling
around , with may be e bay parts £200 if I do the work myself.
My feelings are to bin the PX and bring the Felt into full time winter duties.
What do you thin?

Buy a new groupset for the Felt or Look and trickle down the kit to the LR (assuming it's compatible) - only time I'm ditching a bike is when I have to replace a core part - like the frame .... !

exactly what slowbike said and get all the bits in the sales - it'll cost the same as scuzbay, not be knackered, no hanging around, no jeffing and have warranty/returns

well, we didn't see too many disc brakes in the mountains in Italy this summer or in any of the pelotons so we'll agree to discuss that later but can deffo see cruddy communting benefits.
maybe discs are a british thing? seem to far far more popular in britain than elsewhere.......

Can the Felt take full mudguards and at least 25mm wide tyres ? Preferably wider.
If not - it's not a proper Winter bike.

agree completely on the definition of a winter bike above, which is why I have built this especially to be used as a winter trainer/commuter/shopping/trundle.

I saw a few disc braked roadies last week in Italy. Gently rolling Umbria, not the Alps / Dolomites.
If the Felt won't take wide-ish tyres and proper guards then I'd refurb the London Road properly as a winter bike / commuter.0
