You buy the bike that fits you, for your height that could be M, M/L or even a Large depending on the make and your body shape, ie long legs, long arms, short body, or short legs, short arms, long body.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"
  • You could be a medium (about 18cm) or a large (19cm) but as robertpb said, it's not that simple.

Is it HT or FS? What do you want to do with it?

  • Read this and have it in mind when you go try an MTB for size.

Your height is about the least important measurement when it comes to picking a bike size.

I'm 5'9" but ride medium and large as I have very short legs for my height but need frame length for my torso (as a result I run pretty much slammed stems to match bar and saddle height).
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
