Off to Berlin tomorrow.

Couple of Gigs to go to but couple of spare days too.

Never been - staying in Friedrichshain.

I'll do some of the cheesy stuff (Checkpoint Charlie etc...) but wondered if anyone could recommend quirky bars, clubs or whatever really. Off the beaten track is good.

Turkish market (unfortunately just been named in guardian piece about best markets)

Ramones museum - really a cafe with a few bits of good memorabilia, 5Euro (ithink) gets you a beer and admission to the memorabilia,

Daughter just done visit to an abandoned children’s hospital - graffiti, overgrown, very atmospheric

Done some excellent walking tours - one was pay what you felt like (was great and covered all the standard attractions)
Also an Isherwood tour in Schoenberg was very interesting for the back story for Goodbye to Berlin / Caberet

Thanks - that's some awesome stuff. I'm old!!! (45 - just!) but not too old to stay out for a few light ales and to see some of the nightlife.

^ah — then maybe my 21yo daughter might not want to recommend her techno clubs. She said many were just getting started when she was leaving at 6am

You must eat out at the Dicke Wirtin (Fat Landlady). Great beer. Schnapps menu. Traditional German fayre with large portions. Great friendly atmosphere.
Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.

Reichstag - you need to be organised (passport ready to register)
Coffee and a walk 'round Kreuzberg (eat or drink at Ankerklause)
    Mauerpark
