Hi, I’ve agreed to buy a bike a considerable distance away from my home.
The seller has agreed to send it by courier at my request but I have no idea how to do this.
Could anyone give me some pointers and recommend a courier firm and give me an idea of price.
I’m in Cornwall and the bike is in Leeds.

You could google Leeds to Cornwall couriering. You might be surprised what comes up or maybe not.0

he put it in a box and takes it to dhl or the post office. they send it to you in the post.
the post office are quite good at this sort of thing.
so are dhl and ups and so on.

Parcelforce, Yodel, DHL, DX, or use one of the comparison sites like Parcel2go. Just google them. Nobody can give you a price, because price will depend on the size/weight of the package and how quickly you want it delivered.
