Must be a story behind this??? I heard he was having trouble attracting sponsors - the jiffy bag episode still runs and runs - but have no idea if that's true. Anyone else shed any light on this?

Jiffy bags have been produced since 1964. Hopefully, they will go on producing them for a long time yet.

It’s a shame for the riders and always sad to see a team having to close or look for major sponsors.
I’d speculate that it has nothing to do with Jiffy bags, more to do with the difficulty lots of top level teams have with sponsors. A good number of teams over the last few years have been in the same position.

Lack of sponsors and lack of funding - got bog all to do with 'jiffy bags'. Madison Genesis also stopping at the end of the season...

lack of sponsors, lack of funding, wiggins dropping out of the public eye, brexit & potential recession.

no story behind it at all, just basic economics.

it was only ever a short term thing tbh.......

There possibly is not the return on sponsorship there once was. I think most sponsorship is done for the love of the sport. The net gain maybe there but is hard to quantify. Given most people think a ression is looming the first thing to go is sponsorships. Itsstill a shame though but teams fold all the time.

Partly due to the state the UK domestic racing scene is in at the moment as well, which ought to be the responsibility of BC to sort out, some may argue they created alot of those problems to begin with.

But theres precious little exposure from the races they do get so why would a sponsor whoever's that maybe continue to pay into a money pit for no return, even if that return maybe philanthropic in seeing riders developed towards pro or proconti levels

The end result will be yet more junior and U23 riders moving to Belgium/France to further their careers within more cycle-friendly cultures, which in turn will have the effect of diluting/diminishing the UK scene even more.

He failed at it (claimed he couldn't dedicate the time it required)

Good luck to him though. Despite what opinions are of him, he's achieved more on the bike than most, and its always good to hear someone trying something completely different, especially as challenging as social work.

Shame in one way though as I liked his analysis and input on eurosport this year.

Yeah, he's doing a OU course so could fit it round TV. A lot of a social work degree is placement based but again but most of that is from September onwards so he could do it post Vuelta.

I'm annoyed that I won't be the fastest cyclist who is also a social worker anymore.

Seeking retribution for his demons for doping when winning them bike races, obviously, as the secrets are eating him up from the inside.

Yes, cod psychology has to be the explanation.

Or it could be that the vast majority of professional athletes ultimately pursue careers outside of sport when they retire.

Because it is belief based rather than evidence based.

    The world is flat etc.

perhaps they have the evidence and it is jst belief on the part of others that makes them believe sky/ineos/wiggins are clean and therefore, ergo, they are the lunatics?

and show me evidence that hasn't been contrived by the PROVEN fake news MSM that the world isn't flat.
